Ferrari bound Kimi Raikkonen is now recovering from successful back surgery, according to Finland’s MTV Sport.

After suffering with severe pain from an old back injury at grands prix recently, the Finn elected to sit out the last two races of 2013 in order to have the operation well ahead of his 2014 switch to Ferrari.

The surgery, performed on Thursday, “went well”, MTV reported, and the 34-year-old “can start light exercise in 4 to 6 weeks (time)”.

For the last two races of 2013 in Austin and Brazil, Lotus replaced Raikkonen with his Finnish countryman Heikki Kovalainen.

  1. Good news. Thanks for letting us know.

I wonder who will be looking after the Iceman while he is recovering? Saima, I hear you going to Switzerland? 😉

  2. It´s good to know, that Kimi´s mummy will be his personal “police / guard / angel”, who´ll be looking after him:)) I´m sure, everything will be OK and our Iceman will be like a brand-new – in very good health and strong! Totally prepared for Ferrari-life! Get well, KIMI!!

Taking Kimi’s injury aside, I hope Kimi, Lotus (for their own sake) and ferrari learn something from all that happened before the operation.
For Kimi, it may be his last two years in motor racing, so I think he needs to get his quali right and spend a bit more time in the garage when the tyres don’t suit him, especially when he has Fer on the opposite side.
For Ferrari, I think its important for them to give Kimi space/liberty but also breathing constantly behind his neck, especially giving him a reliable car. Ferrari is packed with highly qualified people, its just wrong if the don’t get a competitive car…
For Lotus (not that I care hehe) I think they need to learn how to treat people better, in Kimi they had a world champion but treated him like a rookie…
