Romain Grosjean set the pace on the second day of pre-season Formula 1 testing at Jerez, while Lewis Hamilton’s first outing for Mercedes was cut short by a crash.
Lotus driver Grosjean, who led the way in the morning, went faster on a series of short runs on the soft tyre in the afternoon.
He eventually got down to a 1m18.218s, six tenths faster than Jenson Button managed on the opening day for McLaren, before switching to longer runs focused on heavy fuel loads and the hard compound tyres.
Kimi Raikkonen will take over testing duties for Lotus tomorrow and on Friday.

Gary Anderson in Jerez: “I’ve been out on the track watching the cars and the Lotus continues to look very impressive. The front end is always there, the traction is good and Romain Grosjean is able to be committed on the throttle.

Bottas: “I really cannot say one driver, but all the world champions it will be nice to get racing with them. Kimi is Finnish and a world champion so that will definitely be nice. I’m sure the Finns would be really happy to see me having some nice battles with him on TV.”
