F1 GP Highlights: Abu Dhabi 2009

https://i0.wp.com/img27.imageshack.us/img27/5543/evenstarsays.png So… we’ve come to the end of the Kimi and Ferrari story. My very first ‘highlights’ video was indeed Kimi’s first race for Ferrari and ever since then I’ve kept telling the story through these videos. It’s been an amazing experience, although sometimes incredibly frustrating – I really hope you’ll enjoy this one as there was limited coverage of Kimi towards the end so I tried to make the best of what I had. But I won’t say it is ultimately the end of the videos, all depends on the next few days of course and when Kimi’s future is finally revealed to us. Coming up next month will be the season review video, and after 2008’s summary… you can only imagine what 2009’s will be like. If you’ve missed any of the 17 videos, you can sit back, relax and catch up with them here. Which has been your favourite video of the season? Let us know in the comments below!

Abu Dhabi wasn’t exactly the best circuit or weekend that Kimi’s had this year – it was agonising to watch. It wasn’t justice to the hard work Kimi had done all year. The awkward silence of Kimi’s departure in red resounded even deeper as the sun set on an era. But a new one is about to begin. I also want to say you guys have been the best fans for sticking with Kimi and putting up with so much this year and you all deserve this break as much as Kimi! And remember – don’t worry… keep flying!
Love,

  8. @Rahim: that’s so sweet! *big hug*@Lowie: Oh my God…you still haven’t heard it!? It’s here: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=t4lSL1EZN5Y. After the 2007 season was over, Ferrari had a Christmas party thrown for them and on the stage the presenter asked the drivers to imitate the F1 car sounds. I always thought it sounded cool as the closing credits for my videos lol

  9. Also, still no news yet, well nothing significant. Apart from this maybe, which indicates the delay in Kimi’s contract being confirmed and it is not about his salary at all:Translation courtesy of Nicole———————————————MERCEDES WANTS A DEPARTUREIlta-Sanomat 6.11.2009 (paper edition)/Janne AittoniemiKimi Räikkönen’s negotiations with McLaren are stuck because McLaren and Mercedes are on the edge of a break-up.Kimi Räikkönen’s negotiations about going to McLaren haven’t gone forward during the last few days. Brawn GP hasn’t confirmed Nico Rosberg’s contract. Heikki Kovalainen is still waiting for information about his chances to continue at McLaren.IS Urheilu reveals why the Finnish drivers still haven’t got any official confirmations to their contracts. The reason is because McLaren and Mercedes are in that kind of a crisis that will lead to the end of their co-operation.At the moment both parties are negotiating about how and with what time schedule the 15 year old agreement can be ended so that it satisfies both parties.Mercedes wants a departure – and the sooner the better. The German car giant has finally got bored with the way it finances McLaren’s operation and owns 40 % of the team but still McLaren always has the final word in important decisions. For example McLaren prevented with it’s veto-right Mercedes from making an engine-contract with Red Bull.Mercedes is going to buy a 75 % share of Brawn GP who has used their engines during this season. Brawn’s car will change into the silver arrows. The team will be called Mercedes and the drivers will be Nico Rosberg and Jenson Button. It wasn’t a coincidence that the head manager of Daimler-corporation Dieter Zetsche and McLaren’s managing director Ron Dennis flew over to Abu Dhabi. They didn’t fly there just to enjoy the track that cost almost a billion euros.A week ago Zetsche, Dennis, his business partner Mansour Ojjeh and the representative of the investment company Mumtalakat who owns 30 % of McLaren, sat down to negotiate about the team’s future. Zetsche declared that Mercedes will sell as soon as possible their share of the team and will after that also end their engine-contract with McLaren. That is something that Dennis, who built up the imperium, has difficult to accept. Dennis and Ojjeh are not going to buy their shares back from Mercedes. Also the breaking of the 2-year old engine-contract is not an easy thing to do. It succeeds only if Mercedes is willing to pay a substantial amount of money as compensation to McLaren.Räikkönen’s manager David Robertson told the truth when he told IS Urheilu last Sunday in Abu Dhabi about his protegé’s situation:- Even though they are claiming in the papers that the biggest problem in the negotiations has to do with Kimi’s demands for salary, it isn’t true, Robertson said. The biggest problem is that there’s a huge lack of trust between Mercedes and McLaren that will also affect on the drivers’ situation.———————————————

  12. Rahim, I think you mean it’s like a trademark of my videos, hehe 🙂 thanks!About McLaren and Mercedes..well, I really don’t know if it’s bad or not. Whitmarsh and Haug have said everything is fine, according to their official press comments etc Kimi has also said McLaren is "the only option", so a lot depends on where McLaren is headed. Obviously, Kimi will want everything secure and strong at McLaren so if Mercedes leave the team next year then that’ll effect McLaren badly. But I don’t think it’ll happen…yet. We’re just going to have to wait a bit longer now to see what’s really going on.

  14. I’m becoming really worried about this long long silence…thank you for these news Saima! well, could arrive another option not mentioned by media but could be a chance that I don’t know if it’s my fantasy or could be real for Kimi and it’s this one: bmw left f1 but not sauber that now has alliance with insurance corporation and banking quadback (an Emirates company, so they have money), so it could be a good chance if we consider the high levels of development of bmw factory and the experience and also the chance to can guide a team from a restart condition. and also could be not so bad if we think about 2009 as the year in wich top teams were not so top (it could happens also next year because of all these continuous changing) and with new pit stop’s regulations in 2010 all teams appears to be nearer. so could be a chance….maybe…..

Thanks for putting the snippet of Kimi’s giving a thumb-up to Seb. We haven’t yet agreed upon anything, Robertson emphasised.Robertson didn’t want to start guessing how long McLaren and Räikkönen can stall their decisions for next season.- We don’t have a deadline. We will continue until things are clear, Robertson said.- Kimi has made it clear that he wants a team where he can win races and championships. McLaren is the only option according to him if he wants to continue in F1, Robertson told.Robertson confirmed that he hasn’t negotiated with other teams – and isn’t going to.- McLaren has been the only option for some time. The plan is that Kimi will continue in F1 at McLaren. If this doesn’t happen, he won’t drive in F1, Robertson told.MTV3 – Lauri Ouvinen————————————————–It’s pretty much confirming what most of us have been thinking – it’s going to be McLaren or nothing, and I totally understand why. Best of luck Kimi.

  36. I just watched Fox Sports News and their scroll news at bottom of the screen reported that World Champion Jenson Button was the latest to be seen touring the McLaren headquarters!!? 37. Well all that I can say is, if Mercedes moves to Brawn they will have Kimi and Rosberg at Brawn. Mercedes prefer both of them. ( I guess a least Kimi. With Mercedes, Brawn will have enough money to pay Kimi for sure. ). If Mclaren-Mercedes split then Kimi will have to decide where to go Brawn/Mclaren.hmm, tough choice. 😛

Here it Button story: http://www.autosport.com/news/grapevine.php/id/80155Ladora on the KRS forum said this: "I love how autosport just posted an article about JB at Mclaren, yet failed to really mention/post an article about kimi/the robertsons at woking a few days back too. British bias, much?"She has a good point! I mean, ITV-F1 website said it and MTV3/TS confirmed it with quotes from Robertson. So I’m disappointed with Autosport… But I still dreamt, again, of reading Kimi’s McLaren announcement on there last night LOL only to see the stupid article about Button instead!Guys, you know McLaren, they are very courteous. They just invited Button over, as a BRITISH world champion to visit a BRITISH F1 headquarters. That’s my take on it. It’s nothing more.

  41. english sites seems to be all for Kimi in mclaren because of troubles in having in the same team two english drivers. in mclaren hammie is the important one and they spent a lot for him so I think and I agree about it: they can’t put two english together, pressure will be too much and the risk is to fail. anyway Kimi could be the first candidate because of links with mclaren and a friendship that hasn’t die in years. we have also the famous photos, many with Kimi and hamilton and withmarsh….we’ll se…….

  47. i don’t belive it will come true. Trully, hopefully not 🙂 .. I don’t like this country-team relations -.-‘ . Where has all this come from suddenly ? Are we going to have G.B GP team, GermanGP team…..By that, Ferrari should have two italian drivers and we know that would’t work out surely. Maybe Kimi should founds his own FinlandGP team and race for it 😀 . I’m sure he collected enought money in there 3 years with Ferrari :D. He alredy has his own team somewhere (Forumla renault, F3 ,)? If Kimi leaves, F1 would not be the same for me anymore. There is no other driver that i like in F1, except Barichello and that crazy japanese guy Kobayshi . 🙂 . One question for you all . With what drivers were you with before kimi came to F1(McLaren) . Mine was Hakkinen, and after he left there was Montoya , and then for 2 years i couldn’t decide for which one was i :). Kimi or Montoya . In the end Montoya helped in my decision by leaving ,and F1 lost another great F1 driver. I’m really hoping that doesn’t happen to Kimi , even he stated he would return eventully
