Kimi’s Post-Race Comments (motorsport-magazin – translation by Miezicat) : "I’m not happy how things
went. We could have finished on the podium, but what happened at the
start, destroyed our race. Everyone tries to gain places at the start
and then easely something can happen, unfortunately I damaged my
front."

"I was not scared because I could not do anything anyway. I saw
that Kovalainen lost fuel, but I did not know where to go to avoid.
Unfortunately, it flowed all over me, I even got some fuel in the eyes.
Suddenly flames were on my helmet and in the cockpit, but I was lucky.
If there would have been more fuel that went up in flames, then I had
to stop."

"KERS helped us a lot today, especially at the start and when I
passed Sutil. We were able to get good points. Now only one race left
and let’s see what we still can manage in the constructors’
championship."

Ferrari Team Quotes
Kimi Raikkonen – 6th: "What happened on the first lap
ruined my race. First I was hit at the first corner, then when trying
to pass Webber, I was hit and lost the front wing. At the pit stop, I
ended up with some drops of petrol in my eye, from the fuel line stuck
on Kovalainen’s car and then I was engulfed in flames and blinded: I
was going to stop, but luckily the flames soon went out. Even now, my
eyes are still burning, but I’m alright. After the restart, I could
only try and use the strategy to move up the order and at least I
brought home a few points. I am disappointed because today I’m sure we
could have made it to the podium. There is one race to go: let’s see
what we can do in Abu Dhabi to get back that third place."

Chris Dyer: "A very disappointing race for us.
Yesterday already, Kimi had done a fantastic job, obtaining a good grid
position and today, he did it again, climbing up from the back of the
pack, all the way up to sixth place after the accident with Webber,
which meant he had to pit to change the front wing. At this moment, his
race was compromised, which is a real shame. With Kimi, we chose to use
the soft tyre first and given how things went, it was the right
decision, but then we had to use the hards, as the first part of the
race would be very long. Giancarlo was stuck in traffic in the first
stint and then, when he had a clear track, his lap times were
reasonable. At the start of his second stint, when he was on the soft
tyres, his pace was better, but then towards the end, he suffered with
graining. Now we will do all we can in Abu Dhabi, to recover the third
place that slipped from our grasp today."

https://i0.wp.com/i38.tinypic.com/33mvtld.gifhttps://i0.wp.com/img27.imageshack.us/img27/5543/evenstarsays.png I just have to comment on this race – f*cking hell! Okay, first things first. The start was brilliant; from 6th, Kimi dived into 3rd place after the first corner and was on Webber’s butt to take 2nd position! Wow! I knew Kimi would be going for it but not so dramatically quick like that. I have to say, this man drives me wild and I love it. Damn…it was supposed to get better but as Kimi attempted to pass Webber around the left, that cocky Australian decided to move towards the left and squeeze Kimi, and that’s where Kimi’s front wing touched Webber’s rear and broke. Okay fair enough, this always happens, and these wings are huge but that’s the first time Kimi had a problem passing someone with it. And Webber had the nerve to say Kimi would’ve done the same thing! The %*%^$^ ^%%^$%$!!!! So Kimi had to pit on the first lap after being in third position…*sigh*. Such a shame. Birthday boy wanted to go for a big prize but it didn’t work out.

As if that wasn’t enough to ruin Kimi’s race. We had to see his car go in flames in the pitlane! Goddamn! Kovalainen was also pitting after his spin on lap 1 and McLaren lifted the lollipop too soon and the fuel hose went flying off with Kovalainen with Kimi realised just behind. I’m sure Kimi knew what was going to happen next, once the remaining fuel left in the hose splashed all over his car. One second and FLASH – bright orange fire covered Kimi’s car, even inside the cockpit! Our poor Kimi had to let go of the steering wheel in the sudden shock of being flamed but the Iceman got himself together quickly and continued his way down the pits. Thank God. I knew the start would be chaotic but I didn’t expect Kimi’s car to catch on fire.

I‘m very sad that it happened. On the bright side, he was okay. The bonus is that he still finished in the points and his 6th place is credit to him. Well done Kimi. Eyes blinded by race fuel and goes and gets 6th place. What a man.

Kimi avoided Kovalainen as much as he could when he saw the hose hanging off, so he moved to the right even though there was little space, he even braked to slow down but even that didn’t help.
Kimi was still so alert after being flamed; he let go of the steering
wheel as a natural reaction but quickly went back to keep the car in
control. He could’ve drove straight into the other pitcrew ahead of
him. Good car control. Iceman indeed.
I hope his eyes are okay. If the fuel went into his eyes, and drove
a whole race without washing them, surely he should get them checked by
the doctors and hopefully Ferrari will take that precaution.

Congratulations to Jenson Button – he drove a race worthy of a great champion and I am very happy for him. It was touching to see Ross Brawn emotional at winning both titles, it must mean even more to him than his previous achievements considering the situation the team were in during the winter. But I press – the racing was fantastic! Not to mention Kobayashi putting up a fight on his debut F1 race (he was going to eventual mess up with the scary crash of Nakajima’s).

I felt awful for Barrichello, he did everything right to win at Brazil yet he was struck by bad luck once again, in the last few laps of the race. Hamilton drove a hard race to get 3rd and he looked utterly exhausted on the podium. Kubica drove an even better race in that BMW and he was knocked out in his own world in the press conference. Bless. The physical-fight between Trulli and Sutil at the start was fun to watch, you got to admit, it’s been a while since the F1 drivers got rowdy. Embarrasing for Trulli though, because he was a complete idiot for behaving like that with Sutil especially when it was his own fault for not being able to keep his car together. We’ll see in a few hours what happens regarding the punishments for the incidents in the race, including McLaren’s premature release of Kovalainen which caused an avoidable and serious situation that resulted with the Iceman in flames. Update – there is no action taken for the Trulli/Sutil incident, however McLaren have been fined for Kovalainen’s pit adventure.

Webber came out 1st in this messy race then. But personally, I’m quite glad he was completely ignored in parc ferme. Haha.

Oh my gosh! I was so worried when Kimi was on fire I completely burst into tears! Don’t know what came over me but at least he’s fine. It was just a shock. Do you know if it was definitely Mclaren’s fault about Heikki or did he go on his own because the coverage didn’t really show what happened?

@Anna: Yeah the McLaren lollipop man let Kovi go too early, it was ridiculous! I don’t see what was the rush to let him go so quickly.Don’t feel too sad Tareq, it happens in racing. Luckily, these kind of situation rarely happen with Kimi, isn’t it? First time something quite ‘big’ happened to him, apart from normal crash etc so the main thing is that he was okay and he still came 6th! woop! Webber can kiss Kimi’s ass, the jealous bastard. He’s always moaning and complaining, and he whinged about Kimi in Spa and now this. Idiot, IMO.I’m going to have an ice cream for him lol

There is a moment that I thought Kimi would be retired from his race after he lost his front rear wing. I’m so glad to he was able to continues his race but the 2nd incident happened right away after he changed ‘nose’. I didn’t expect it was so scary & dangerous until I saw the picture in Ferrari forum. Thank god Kimi is unhurt & still able to finish at 6th!!! What a great drive by Kimi. It could have been a podium finish for him without the incidents. What a pity 😦 However it is alway up & down for everybody but most importantly is we still see Kimi racing!

I thought Mark’s move on Kimi was really immature and what he said was…God help him please.

OMG….what can i say??!! I’m speechlessKimi’s start was amazing i was so happy to see him fly to P3 but that joy was short lived….Webber is just so annoying i know such incidents happen sometimes but he could have avoided it….he just ruined kimi’s race and all his hard work this weekend, Kimi could have been on podium….worse was the fact that the stewards felt no need to investigate the incident i mean what the hell!!! then Kimi’s car is almost caught on fire that was soooo scary but thank God he was unharmed and to complete it Hammy gets on podium and is now ahead of Kimi in the standings….what a weekend :(Still Kimi was amazing and didn’t give up and finished P6 well done Iceman!!! Hope u can finish on podium or better win ur last GP with Ferrari….Good luck Kimi :DAlways Keep Flying!!!!!!

Brilliant start for Kimi.. he is just so amazing.. I really enjoyed that, but then unfurtanetely.. Webber appeared… Then with Iceman on fire.. I though that the race was going to be a disaster.. but it turned out to be.. a race which (I insist) showed us– the great quality of driver kimi is.. 1.- He didn´t cry about the Webber incident (we just have to see Trully´s reaction) nor .. about the dangerous situation and maybe the risking of his live.. he behaved professionally. he continued¡. OHH What a MEN he IS.. and then.. OMG.. he reached 6 th place.. an excellent recovery.. KIMI is an IRONMAN.. I must say.. I´m in love..he is Fantastic.. 😀

What a dangerous and silly move by Webber – still Kimi drove brilliantly to recover from almost last to 6th! Pity that Hammie has overtaken him in the standings 😦 Kimi’s pit lane moment was so scary especially during the replays – you could see the fuel spray all over him and the fire igniting in the cokpit; luckily he’s okay, and he was sooooo brave to continue after being blinded and nearly roasted!! That’s our Iceman!!! Webber would no doubt have got out and whinged endlessly about safety. Hope his eyes are fine though.

Webber didn’t mean to damage, intentionally, obviously. He says he was firm. But he was overly firm with Kimi IMO which is the reason Kimi was hit. Kimi didn’t hit Webber. Webber hit Kimi actually, Kimi wasn’t even near Webber enough. It’s because Webber moved TOO much onto Kimi in his defence. So I won’t accept people saying it was Kimi who hit Webber.Anyways, it’s racing, Kimi didn’t sound too fussed about it but he DID say people shouldn’t push others of the circuit. Says enough for me.Roll on Abu Dhabi – let’s get that podium back Kimi! 🙂

Yeah, bring on Abu Dhabi! Are people really saying that Kimi hit Webber? They only have to watch the replay to see that it was Mark who moved in on Kimi when he already had the inside line and took off his front wing. Kimi drove like a champion; Hammie was very, very good, and I was totally impressed by Kobayashi – a gutsy and mature drive, and completely unfazed by WDC contenders pawing all over the back of his car. I loved the way he re-took Button at one point, lol!

Of course, first of all, I would like to say again how awesome our Iceman is again for keeping his cool! I wish Kimi could have been on the podium. I think that the way he was going in the 1st lap, he could even have won with a good strategy.Anyway, getting hit…being set on flames… moving to the back of the grid… then driving his heart out all the way back up to 6th…showed, for me, what Kimi is really made of – SHEER TALENT… OUTSTANDING SKILL… UNWAVERING FOCUS AND DETERMINATION… REMARKABLE CALM in the face of adversity… PURE- HEARTED PASSION for his sport – – the MIND, HEART AND SOUL OF A TRUE CHAMPION!All these characteristics were so much more defined than just getting the position and driving till the end of the race!Added to that, no complaints, no whining, no excuses – as usual…Kimi has now proven his loyalty (even if he will leave the team at the end of the season) by now, LITERALLY, risking his life for the team. I was so proud when SD said that Kimi said his eyes were burning and SD said that he could just come in and it would be ok and Kimi just went on and continued racing his heart out.THANK GOD…THANK GOD…that he is OK. Even SD said that luckily he had his visor down. I dread to imagine if it was not.Congratulations to Jenson and Brawn, and to Kobayashi, who drove an amazing F1 debut race!Bring on Abu Dhabi! I know if things go right – Kimi will be up there on the podium again. And if they don’t, I will still rest easy because I know that Kimi will still do his best!KEEP FLYING, KIMI!

Great review Saima! Have you noticed that something else, considered more important by the tv coverage, always happens on the weekends that we want to hear about Kimi, his second in Hungary was Hamilton’s first win, third Valencia was Ruben’s first win, the Force India on the podium at Spa, return of Brawn and Hamilton’s crash at Monza and in Brazil Brawn and Jenson won the championship. Does anyone have the interview he did with Speed Tv on the grid? It would be great to see as it’s such a rare thing to get a pre-race interview.
