Vettel in Monza!

The image “https://i0.wp.com/img230.imageshack.us/img230/8868/xapflakmgmflioungmjrx8.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.Sebastian Vettel took an astounding and
historic victory for Toro Rosso in the Italian Grand Prix, after a commanding
performance in wet conditions at Monza. The 21-year-old German not only claimed
his and his team’s first ever victory, but became the youngest race winner in
Formula One history.

Heikki Kovalainen (McLaren) and Robert Kubica (BMW) completed the podium
ahead of Renault’s Fernando Alonso, with title contenders Felipe Massa and
Lewis Hamilton having to settle for sixth and seventh respectively.

Vettel simply dominated in the very wet early laps, with the event beginning
with two laps behind the safety car before conditions were considered safe for
racing. The young German was nearly two seconds per lap faster than
second-placed Kovalainen at first, steadily establishing a 10-second advantage
in the first stint.

Although fellow two-stopper Kovalainen ran four laps further than Vettel
before pitting for the first time, he could do little about the Toro Rosso’s
lead, matching its pace but rarely managing to close the gap.

Hamilton had made a muted start to the race, following Giancarlo Fisichella
and Kimi Raikkonen in 14th at first while nursing his tyres on a heavy fuel
load. But by lap nine Hamilton began to come alive, passing the Force India and
Ferrari in quick succession and then commencing a spectacular charge through
the field.

The Briton rapidly gained places thanks to both his own passing moves and
the two stoppers rejoining behind him, and by half-distance the race looked
like it would be a straight fight between the two-stopping Vettel and the
one-stopping Hamilton, who ran first and second – just one second apart – on
lap 26.

Track conditions were improving fast though, and despite many teams
suggesting that another heavy rain shower was imminent, the forecast downpour
failed to appear and the extreme wet tyres started to struggle.

The timing was ideal for those on extremely long first stint one stop plans
– such as Kubica and Alonso – and for the two stoppers, who were all able to
change to intermediates at their final scheduled stops. But the change in
weather ruined Hamilton’s bid for a stunning victory, forcing him to make an
unplanned second stop and putting him back to seventh.

The image “https://i0.wp.com/img230.imageshack.us/img230/1240/kbagioukzfitjvkzpbqys4.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors. That left Vettel unchallenged at the front,
with Kovalainen promoted back up to second as the one stoppers had to return to
the pits, albeit still 11 seconds behind the Toro Rosso, which continued to
edge away and duly clinched a breathtaking and historic victory.

Kubica had a quiet first half of the race at the foot of the top ten, but
his one pitstop was perfectly timed for the switch to intermediates, so he
leapt up to third place, ahead of Alonso – whose strategy proved similarly
ideal for the fluctuating conditions. Nick Heidfeld couldn’t quite match
Kubica, but took the second BMW to fifth.

Massa only managed sixth place, having spent much of the first stint stuck
behind Nico Rosberg’s Williams. He then rejoined in heavy traffic after his
first stop, and was unable to make up the lost ground.

Raikkonen barely featured in the race, although he finally began gaining
places and setting fastest laps as the track dried. It was too late to get into
the points by then however, leaving him ninth…(read full report here)

The image “https://i0.wp.com/i11.photobucket.com/albums/a188/SaimaAzam/Misc/krsevenstarsmall3.png” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.I just wanted to hug Vettel as he stood on the top step of
the podium, what a brilliant first win and everything seemed so perfect for the
Torro Rosso team (apart from Bourdais’ stall at the start). Sebastien drove
absolutely fantastically, he made no mistakes whatsoever and hardly held back,
leaving the rest behind. The team must be so happy but even they couldn’t
believe it and I guess it won’t sink in till the next few days! Congratulations
to them and all the fans. I think we all deserved seeing a fresh face taking
some glory in this crazy sport. There’s no doubt about it that Vettel deserved
this win and there’s plenty more to come from this talented young man. Fernando
Alonso gave his commiserations Vettel in parc ferme graciously, as he no longer
keeps the record for the youngest Grand Prix winner in history. That’s quite a
big honour.

Well,
what do you all think of that race then? I don’t have much to say really, to be
honest! The safety car/rolling start was scary to watch, the spray and mist was
just unbelievable. Kimi and Lewis managed okay, as did everyone really, and
there was plenty of overtaking which kept the race interesting. But even
despite that, I struggled to follow it properly and can you blame me: it was
the same old story all over again for Kimi. Today was utter, concrete-hard,
proof that it’s down to the weather and the Ferrari’s incompatibility with it.
Kimi wasn’t able to have a great start and as usual it only got better in the
last few laps of the race which explains his amazing fastest lap time, a second
clear of everyone else! Whereas Hamilton’s McLaren was able to let his balls
grow and pass Kimi and climb through the field rapidly, while Kimi still
lingered in the back, struggling. What the hell does this show? Kimi is the
fastest driver out there yet he couldn’t manage to climb through the field,
something which is actually a Kimi quality as we saw in his McLaren days. How
is it possible, that Kimi stayed 14th for the first stint of the race? He was
pushing, oh yes he was, he was even sliding and had a moment nearly in his
chasing. Clearly, he’s been held back once again by his car and the conditions
it has trouble with. It’s not just a coincidence that Kimi used to be able to
get podiums and even win from starting far back on the grid, while today he couldn’t
even pass to save his life. It’s extremely frustrating and I wonder how he
feels about today’s race, after being so happy with the car on Friday. From an interview taken after the race, reporters still have the nerve to ask Kimi stupid questions:

Q. Are you satisfied with your race?

Kimi Raikkonen: Do you think I am?

Read the rest of Kimi’s thoughts further below, and also try and participate in leaving your comments and views.

Anyway, Hamilton only managed 7th today, and if you compare that to the podiums
Kimi used to be able to manage in a McLaren from lower down the grid then I’m
still quite content that Kimi is the best driver out there. I can brag about
that quite proudly and not give a shit. His fastest lap is pure evidence of it.
And don’t get me started on the strategy for the race, what the hell Ferrari
were doing with Kimi was an utter joke. He should have been one-stopping, only
an idiot on the Ferrari wall would bring Kimi in to pit only to run about 9
laps more before pitting again. What on earth was that about? Please enlighten
me, as I said I wasn’t able to follow the race properly. Kimi pitted on lap 26, was very shortly fuelled and extreme wet tyres remained, and then pitted again to change to intermediate tyres on lap 36. He basically lost all he gained, well tried to gain, in those 9 laps. Switching to intermediates on the first stop would have been really risky but at least Kimi would have known earlier to deal with it and he could have finished in the points later.

Massa couldn’t do anything either. He started 6th and finished 6th. Can the
world’s greatest drivers, especially in the Ferrari team, be that incompetent? I’m
just shocked. Kimi could’t pass a flipping Force India, for heaven’s sake. I’m
just shocked. Actually, even Kovalainen was a disgrace and serves him right
having to stand on that podium looking like a right novice compared to Vettel
and Kubica. Hamilton may be an annoying git and waffle his arse off but at
least he could manage to gain some places, he pulled some great moves. The new
generation of drivers that we see today are the life and future of F1 indeed.

This may be sounding like a complete rant, it probably is, but my point is
that…it’s looking hopeless now. I only managed to keep my hopes up after Spa
despite the terrible ending because that was Spa. Here at Monza, on their home
ground, Ferrari couldn’t do anything. They made a complete mess of it, in my
opinion. Vettel was too strong, and the weather this weekend obviously helped,
but if the next few races continue with this kind of downpour then Ferrari
might aswell start focusing 100% on next year. They are useless in these
conditions. It took Kimi, the fastest driver as the stats show, a round of laps
just to pass one car, whereas Lewis could take on 3 in one lap. I feel bad for
Kimi now, he sounded so positive after Friday and I don’t know why he did. The
car just lacked everything in the race. It was only Kimi who shone through in
the end, not the Ferrari (sorry to the Tifosi, but that’s the truth as it’s
been all season). He took his ninth fastest lap of the season, out of 14 races.
My goodness. He’s a flying Finn alright. Just pity that the car can’t handle
warming up in time when it counts. It takes the whole race for the car to come
alive, not Kimi. It takes the whole race for the car to enjoy the track drying,
not Kimi. Okay, I’ve done enough of the whinging now, but I hope you get my
point. This race sucked to the max, and only Vettel’s drive and win saved it.

Kubica and BMW’s silent determination has paid off and he is now comfortably
ahead of Kimi in the championship, and Kimi is 21 points adrift the lead. Which
is what it would have been after Spa if Hamilton didn’t receive a penalty.
Instead of working their butts of to ensure Kimi stays in the fight, they
couldn’t do nothing this weekend. Ferrari weren’t favouring Massa either, which
makes it worse. Now we go to Singapore and rain is also with a 60% chance there
so I’m so excited for that! I just can’t wait to see how Ferrari can get out of
this one *rolls eyes*.

Update 17:15: Apparently, Kimi had a dry set-up for the race which explains the poor first half of the race.

To finish on a more positive note, and I’m obliged to really, Kimi is the
fastest driver out there. We all know it. It’s just the way things go sometimes.
This season hasn’t gone very well for him. He’s been unlucky in some races,
he’s been struggling big time with his car, and just when it looks like it got
out of the deep end, it sinks again. Here in Monza, he couldn’t pull off his
strong fight to the podium as he did in Fuji 2007 because I think Ferrari did
something really wrong with the downforce set-up for the race, their strategy
was poor and there was a general lacking of pace, on the car’s behalf ofcourse.
Kimi wasn’t lacking anything, which makes it bitter as usual. I’m not just
saying it to defend him of a poor result. We’ve seen it time and time again in
these wet races from Ferrari this year. But Kimi will keep flying, that’s his
job ~

"I am just trying to get the things right, that is the main thing,"
Raikkonen told a group of reporters after the race. "I am not thinking
about anything right now. Hopefully we will get the car working.

"It works when the tyre works but we cannot switch the tyres on and
then everything goes wrong after that. I am not really interested to
think about what we are going to do in the next few races. Hopefully we
can get everything right, and have some more fun again."

He added: "It is not the first time for us. Sometimes it works and
sometimes not, and we don’t really have an explanation about why it
doesn’t work, and why the tyres work sometimes.

"I think it is not about the car not being good in some conditions,
it is just to get the whole combination working together and usually we
then get good results. Today was one of those. In the end, it was good
but it was 40 laps too late."

Raikkonen admitted he was unsure if he will have to play a supporting role to teammate Felipe Massa in the remaining races.

"I don’t know. We will see what happens," he said.

"It is not good, but we keep trying and hopefully we can have good
races at the end of the year and that would be a nice thing. It hasn’t
been lately so easy, so that is what we are aiming for."

Ferrari Team Quotes

Felipe Massa – 6th: "It was a tough race: I had
hoped to do better but I’m also aware it could have been worse. In
fact, I’ve managed to make up a point on my nearest rival so this is
absolutely not a negative result. In normal conditions, in other words
in the dry, I think I could have made it to the podium…"

Kimi Raikkonen: "This was a very difficult race for
us. In the conditions at the start, as we have seen before in the past,
we could not keep our tyres up to temperature and we totally lacked
grip. I could do nothing but try to stay on the track hoping the
conditions would change.

"When they did, unfortunately it was too late to aim for a points
finish. The car worked well but without grip, you’re not going
anywhere. The situation in the Drivers’ championship is now even more
difficult, but I will continue to give it my best shot as usual."

Stefano Domenicali: "We’re definitely not satisfied
with this result, but considering the circumstances in which the race
was run, it could have actually been much worse. Once again today, we
had confirmation that, in certain track conditions and temperature
range, our car is not quick enough. Then, it only needs a slight change
for the performance to return to being very competitive….There are four races to go and everything is still possible.
Finally I would like to congratulate Scuderia Toro Rosso, which uses
our engines and Sebastian Vettel on their first Formula 1 win: they did
a perfect job all weekend and they deserve this moment of great joy."

Luca Baldisserri: "Our race was conditioned in a
very obvious way by the performance of the tyres. At the start, when it
was still raining, we could not get them to the right operating
temperature and we were too slow compared to our rivals. Then, all it
took was for the track to dry a bit for the car to be pretty much
transformed, as can be seen from Kimi’s lap times in the final stages
of the race…

Who´s the rainmaster now baby?!?!? Big congratulations to Vettel and the Toro Rosso team, they were in a class of their own today, to drive the way Sebastian did in those conditions is trully admirable. Poor Bourdais for his start, but he did pretty ok afterwards given the circumstances. As for Ferrari, I´m speechless and not in a good way – WHAT THE FU** WAS THAT TWO STOP STRATEGY?!?!!? They should have gone for a one stop strategy, knowing that Kimi is good at building races heavily fueled and starting from the back. Ok, the weather was not favourable, but come on!The race was boring apart from a few moves from Hamster and Kimi; the only good thing was seeing Vettel´s young, fresh face on top of the podium.Don´t know what else to say…..Keep flying Kimi – Keep flying Evenstar!!!

    The Two stop strategy:

    🙂 My point of view,

From my point of view, What I think ferrari tried to do for Kimi was to short fuel him, so that he could be the one with the lightest fuel with new tyres, get out infront of the toyotas so that Kimi could do quick laps before the expected heavy rain would come and do another stop when the heavy rain did come with a swap to newer extreme wet tyre, so that at least Kimi tyres would be in a better condition then others….

But what i did not get is if they were to choose the strategy as I have said then why not take the risk and put Kimi on intermediate tyres if they would have done that Kimi would have been in a much better postion.

From what I have seen this season, I somehow feel Ferrari seem to have lost strategies and gutsy decisions….I mean if it were me as boss, I would have put Kimi on inter but end of the day the driver has much say in it as well…

Don’t be fooled by Hamilton, Saima!  His overtaking maneuvers were D I R T Y.Indeed, you can very much boast of the fact that Kimi was the one who, in a McLaren, was capable of starting from the back of the grid and finishing first!

yeah don’t be fooled by Hamilton guys, his antics made a mock of F1, seemed like a pathetic GP2 race. What the hell was he doing? Getting revenge from Alonso while passing him or having fun with slower guys or taking out frustration about Spa decision. He should be disqualified and ‘locked in a dark room with Max Mosley with a hidden camera’. that’s what this jackass deserves. when he comes out, maybe he’d hv learnt a lesson or two.
At the end of the day, Ferrari are a bunch of crooks. Even with Schumcher on the pitwall, they do these sorts of blunders. I’m ashamed of these Italians, they making Kimi look second grade. But it has to be said, Massa did a better job in Q2 yesterday and that was the deciding factor. should admit that…..

Hamilton did do some nice moves, like on one of the BMWs. But he was a bit hard on Glock and Webber, yes I know that. He was even arrogant enough to say "oh, did Sebastien win it? congrats to him" after the race lolSomeone on the forum told me that Kimi had a dry set up. Okay. But so did everyone else, apart from some of Toyota and Williams. Kimi on a dry set up isn’t an excuse for his race. I didn’t want to imply in the blog post above that he had a bad race because of that. Because even Vettel had a dry set up. I’ve just been confused at it all and was finding out what happened. So everyone was on a dry set up? Kimi was the fastest in the end, okay, no surprise there, but it’s the first half of the damn race that I’m trying to figure out what happened. Doesn’t matter.@Ram: thanks for your views on it 🙂 kinda makes sense…but not good enough for Ferrari to be making such rubbish tactics.

Ok then Kimi had interview with autosport and he is still not in favour of helping Felipe. Great determination!!  Atleast this season has highlighted a few areas where Kimi and Ferrari will have to work together to make next year’s car more adaptive to his driving style. Maybe this season’s sacrifice or troubles may spell good fortune for next two years. He has speed in race trim, no damn doubt about it, but if Ferrari can come up with a car that suits Kimi in qualifying trim as well, then he is undoubtedly unstoppable. Looking forward to some fun in next 4 races as Kimi said he’ll be looking to solve his problems. He can now experiment more as he is 99% out of title fight. Maybe the experimentation may throw up some interesting ideas and solutions.
i can already see a great combination for next year, slicks similar to Michelin’s, the fastest driver himself and F2009 that has ironed out its stupid flaws. Kimi’s secret to success in Mclaren was its handling which was tuned to his liking and he delivered, and registered himself in our hearts, the Kimofis(don’t know how to spell that).

Yeah maybe even I’m not writing off Kimi just yet but again it’s just getting worse. a whopping victory in singapore would be damn good.
And couldn’t agree more, Kubica may win instead of Hamsterdam or Felipe. Although no one gets the nod over Kimi, if it stays like this, then maybe Kubica should win it. This rain, oh it’s like blood sucking vampire, making our life a living hell. if there hadn’t been rain this year, then Kimi would hv triumphed in silverstone, spa and monza(he was really happy with his car in monza until rain).

It is really a shock to see again what a  Ferrari car is really like on the wet! at the start it even does not  have enough speed to take over a Force-India! Terrible!
I was almost cursing when they remained the big-rain tyre for Kimi’s first stop! can they just satisfied with the result?why didn’t they risk again like Alonso did later?was the track so terrible back then? they fuelled Kimi light just in case for another shift of tyres which became reality later, only a reflection of how miserable their conflicting feelings were then.
It is true it is even terrible to note that Ferrari was not favoring Massa. Alas, only numerous moves in the race is a consolation and Vettel’s maiden win-fabulous!
good news is they are still trying. look at the bright side of this story,21 is a big difference to 17 although harder definitely!

I wrote this in our forum but I have to share it here, because I know there are Hamster fans lurking here. Well how about this!? >Hamster was pretty rude in his moves against Glock and Webber in the Italian GP, but apparently the FIA didn’t take action because of the media pressure on their previous Hamilton-penalty drama. That sounds ridiculous. Now read what the Hamster has to say on his Webber move: http://www.itv-f1.com/news_article.aspx?id=43979%5Bquote%5D"I had to put up a fight to stop him coming by," he was quoted as saying by Reuters. "There was only one dry line and I made sure I covered my inside spot, but I didn’t want to stay there on the wet patch or I wouldn’t have made the corner. He just clipped my front wheel and went on."Coming just a week after Hamilton’s controversial penalty at Spa, there were fears that this incident might also attract the stewards’ attention, but this time no action was taken. Lewis felt the touch had just been a racing incident, and was simply relieved that he had escaped without damage."The lucky thing is that the car didn’t break," he said. "Just imagine if the car had broke, it would have been disastrous."[/quote]What a self centered prick? oh don’t worry about anyone else’s car by pushing them off the road (after accusing Kimi doing it at Spa, idiot) but God forbid anything happen to you, Lewis!Lewis really needs to shut the hell up. Oh how I wish he suffers atleast just one engine blow up or rear wing failure or heat shield fire this season. Then he can really flipping appreciate how hard McLaren AND Kimi’s work pays for his cheap success. The car breaking isn’t a disaster. You’re a disaster in the making, mate!

Vettel victorious ! Fantastic fairy tale win & great to see yet another surprise winner to spice things up.
I’d also like to start by saying thank you Evenstar, for setting up this website for like-minded Kimi supporters to express our views and emotions!
Yet another disappointing finish from Kimi, which leads me to this theory….Kimi is an ODD-man,  or rather, an odd number year man; i.e. he somehow doesn’t do well in even-numbered years.
2001: Kimi  blasted into F1 Sauber team scoring a point in his first ever GP and won Rookie of the Year
2002: Settling in after move to McLaren
2003: Wins first ever GP in Malaysia and challenging M.Shumacher right to the end
2004:  Despite win in Spa, not in position to challenge for Driver’s title
2005: Wins 7 GPs and fighting with Alonso for title all the way
2006: Write-off year and not even in contention
    2007: World Champion!!!
2008: ….I hope my theory is proven wrong!!

To be honest, if Kimi is out of contention, the driver I hope will win this year is Kubica. He is funny, smart, humble, doesn’t have any airs or arrogance about him, and always thanking his fans and supporters. Somehow, Massa doesn’t quite have the X-factor about him, and Lewis can wait his turn….he’s got a long road ahead of him.
Bring on Singapore, let’s see if Kimi can spring a surprise and score some much needed points.

Hey Yining! I haven´t given up on Kimi and I won´t, ever!!! I´ve said it over and over, despite having my moments of doubt, that even if he doesn´t win, only good things can come from his "defeat" (I put it in quotation marks because it´s not because of him or his driving, it´s because of that bloody Ferrari!), so as I was saying, only good things can come if he looses, for example, he´ll have more eagerness to win the championship and to be in a strong position again. If he isn´t in a strong or the strongest position now it´s because Ferrari have failed to provide him with a car that suits his driving style and his liking. After the mid season, I began to think strongly, how much better the F2007 was compared to the F2008; at least the F2007 could handle itself in wet conditions! And Kimi didn´t have so much trouble heating up the tyres either.:p

Not giving up on Kimi, either. What kind of fan would I be if I do that? Real Kimi fans understand and have been witness to just how superior his abilities are, and we also know that the only thing that gets in his way is his luck (I’ve observed your theory, too, Trixie… but hopefully, 2008 won’t follow!). So, yeah!!! Albeit his chances have gotten slimmer, he has what it takes to still be able to pull it off, no doubt about it!!!

What utter frustration must Kimi be experiencing! He is suppose to be in the best team with the best car and all the money for development, a supposedly well-oiled team, etc. but somehow they can’t make it work! What is more, he is the fastest driver (the best) but he is almost out of contention! How he must hate this, this, this …   I can’t seem to find the right word. (I am Afrikaans speaking and lacking in terminology.) How is it possible for such an advanced team not to be able to be competitive in the wet? How come it seems there is no well thought through strategy? What has become of the "no allowance for error" attitude? What is going on with Ferrari? I have always maintained that they must know what they are doing, they are the experts for crying out loud! Somehow maybe I don’t understand motor racing so well – so give them a chance. Things will come right, they will find out what is wrong and then everything will be ok again. But this, this, this …. (I still haven’t found the right word) – is unacceptable!!!

This guy wants to race. He has just extended his contract. There is no lack of motivation, skills, etc. He is the fastest. Please just give him a competitive car!! Preferably one that can race in the wet as well.

Oh, I forgot to say – I shall never give up on Kimi. I like the guy. I find his personality fascinating and his answers to silly hillarious. He is not arrogant as can be said of our friend, the Hamster. He is just Kimi. Take it or leave it. Let’s keep on cheering for Kimi! Keep flying Kimpa!

Sorry, I left out the word "questions" after "silly"!
