What Kimi has to say… ( video & Kimi’s Column – Japan GP Preview)

New Rebellions

I have three races left with Ferrari. There wasn’t anything left to
tell the grandchildren about Singapore. It was a real lame weekend. We
couldn’t get anywhere. The last 10 laps with soft tyres was something
that gave you at least a feeling of driving.

McLaren went fast and caught up on us in the WCC. It’s going to be
difficult to keep them behind but we will do our best. Fortunately
Suzuka has less corners. Here we should be a little better at least. We
need points. That’s our goal.

We did some jobs in Tokyo. Water was pouring from the whole sky and
a wet weather would suit us this weekend too. Somehow the differences
between the cars in the wet aren’t that big.

It doesn’t help at all but four years ago I got a sweet victory in
Suzuka when I started from the back rows and got into the lead during
the last lap with Mercedes. Suzuka is a cool place to race but it also
requires a car that is strong in these corners.

We have had our new parts for a few months whereas the others are
still improving their packages. We saw that in Singapore when it got
tough to get ahead in the quali. Hopefully we will now get into Q3 but
then everything has to fall in place on Saturday.

We go with these. We put everything in the game. Hopefully I have a
better feeling in Friday practice than I had in Singapore. There we
knew immediately that it’s going to be a bad place for us.

From Autosport.com

The former world champion, who joined Ferrari in 2007 and went on to
win the title, will be replaced by Fernando Alonso from next year,
despite having a contract that run out at the end of 2010. Although Raikkonen has been linked with a return to McLaren, the
Finn admitted he is still thinking about whether he wants to race on in
F1 or not.

"So far I have not talked too much about what I will do next, as I
still have time to make my decision and I will let you know when I
have," Raikkonen said ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix.

"For the moment, I haven’t decided what I want to do next, whether I
want to continue racing or not. I had a contract for next year, but now
I don’t, so that changes things. So maybe I race, maybe I do not."

He said switching to the World Rally Championship was a possibility.

"Yes, there’s a chance to do that, but there’s as much of a chance
that I continue in Formula 1. I will decide before the start of next
year for sure! If I do decide to stay in Formula 1, I wouldn’t go to
any of the small teams, where I would not have the chance to fight for
the championship.

"If I race next year, that would be my goal, otherwise there is no
reason to be in Formula 1. I achieved what I wanted, but if I race,
then of course, I want to win more races and championship titles."

Raikkonen said there were many factors for his decision to agree to
terminate his contract early, and insisted he was pleased with his call.

"There are many reasons why this has happened," said the Finn ahead
of the Japanese GP. "In F1, even if you have a contract, there can
always be different options in life. There is not just one reason why
this happened and we all reached the same decision.

"I’m still happy with what I have done in making this decision and I
think I will still have a good future. Usually when you make a
contract, you stick with it to the end, but there were reasons why it
did not work out, but I’m okay with how things have turned out."

"I have nothing bad to say about them as we always had a
good relationship. I don’t think anyone expected Ferrari to have this
sort of season, which turned out to be so difficult. But this can
happen in F1 sometimes, when you don’t deliver a car capable of always
being at the front, but this is just one year and we will wait and see
what happens next.

"I would not have done anything different: of course I would like to
win more races, but in terms of decisions about my life, I would not do
anything differently to the way I have done it. I am happy with what I
have achieved, even if whenever you look back, you think you might have
done things differently, but that’s easy to say when you look back.

"But in terms of contracts and so on, I would not do anything
different. With Ferrari, I have achieved what I set out to do in
winning the title.

"We had good times and sometimes more difficult times, but that’s
part of this business and you just have to get through those moments.
We won many championships, one for me, two for the team and I have
happy memories."

Q & A with Kimi
From Formula1.com

Q: Kimi, you had good times at Ferrari, won a championship and now it’s all over. How do you feel about that?
Kimi Raikkonen:
Well,
let’s face it, in the end I have achieved what I wanted – I’ve won a
championship. I’ve worked with them for the last three years and now
things have changed. It’s not the first time that it has happened in
Formula One and surely won’t be the last time. That’s all I want to say.

Q: But how did Ferrari convince you to end the relationship. You had a contract for 2010 with them?
KR:
There
are many reasons. You should ask them. But in Formula One, even if you
have a contract, there is always a lot of money involved, so there can
always be different options in life. That’s obviously what happened.
Sure, there is not only one reason for what has happened, that’s why
everybody decided to end up in this position.

Q: You had a
contract for next year and have done your best over the last three
year, winning one championship. Do you feel you’ve been unfairly
treated?
KR:
I’m still happy with what I’ve done and I think I
will have a good future. Sure, if you sign a contract you finish it,
but obviously it didn’t work out. Overall I’m okay with it.

Q: How long ago did you know you won’t race for Ferrari in 2010?
KR:
For quite a while now.

Q: Are you okay with the solution you’ve found?
KR:
Yeah.

Q:
There are a number of options open to you for the future. One of them
is returning to McLaren. Could you imagine going back? Would you enjoy
it there again?
KR:
I have nothing bad to say about them as we
always had a good relationship, and of course it’s a chance. But
honestly I haven’t thought too much about these things, but in time I
will make my decision. I will let you know!

Q: Are you a bit frustrated with Ferrari this season?
KR:
I
don’t think anyone expected Ferrari to have this kind of season, which
turned out to be so difficult. But this can happen in Formula One
sometimes, when you don’t deliver a car capable of getting us to the
front, but this is just one year and we will wait and see what happens
next.

Q: Renault said that they will make their announcement next week. Could they be an option and have you talked to them?
KR:
No, not with them.

Q: If you could do it all over again would you do anything differently?
KR:
Would
I have made different decisions? No. I am happy about what I have done,
but sure if you look back in hindsight you probably would have done
different things. But that’s easy to say afterwards. Regarding my
contracts, no I would not have changed anything.

Q: What did you give to Ferrari and what did Ferrari give to you in the last three years?
KR:
I’ve
achieved with them what I always wanted to achieve. We had good times,
of course, but we also had difficult times. But that’s part of the
whole business. Sometimes you have good moments and sometimes you just
have to grit your teeth and carry on. Overall I have happy memories of
my time with the team. I have won a championship and the team has won
two. That is something that nobody can take away.

Q: You
have seemed to have had ups and downs. Did you always give 100 percent
or have there been moments where you lacked motivation?
KR:
No,
there has never been a lack of motivation. All the stories came from
the media – basically you guys. I never had any motivation problems.
Sure if you have good results life tends to be easier, but then these
things happen.

Q: Many times before you’ve said that
Ferrari will be your last team. Have you changed your mind or were you
forced to change your mind?
KR:
Like I said, there have been
many options around and what happened now is just one of them. I think
in the end I am happy with what happened, otherwise I would not have
done the deal with them. For the moment I have not decided if I want to
continue racing, or what I want to do. Before I had a contract for
2010, now not anymore. That changes things. Maybe I’ll race, maybe I
won’t.

Q: What are the chances of you going rallying now?
KR:
There
is chance, but there is also chance of racing in Formula One. For sure
I will decide before the start of the next season what I am going to
do.

Q: Did you ask Ferrari why Fernando and not me, or why Felipe Massa and not me? Did you get a satisfying answer?
KR:
I
know more or less the reasons and it has nothing to do with my racing
or anything I’m doing in the team. It’s just purely another reason.

Q: How much has your departure to do with the arrival of Santander?
KR:
For that you’ll have to ask the team.

Q: Wherever destiny takes you, do you hope to fight with Fernando for another world title?
KR:
If
I decide to go with a team next year, I am surely not going with any of
the small teams, as that will never give me the chance to fight for the
championship. And if I’m not able to fight for the championship, there
will be no reason for me to be in Formula One.

Honestly, I’d love to see him stay, at least. Though rumors would never stopped about his opting out, but for what? He would leave if he feels no fun. But before that, HE WILL RACE~ Quoting: "My only aim, if I am going to race next year, is to have a car that can win the Championship. Otherwise there is no point." I guess he would stay, either back to Macca or GP Brawn. Actually, if Red Bull has a good car, I think it suits him. The only real thriller in this stale F1 paddock~And thinking about pairing Seb, wonderful match~~~Anyway, KEEP FLYING AND KEEP COOL, KIMI~

I am quite sure that Santander secured a seat at McLaren for Kimi, and that he will be there next year. That was the main reason why he agreed to break the contract with Ferrari, I think. Now it’s up to him to decide whether he will race for them or not. It will be extremely difficult next year, though. We’ve got Massa, Alonso, Hamilton, maybe even Button, Vettel, Rosberg and Webber again who will compete for the title. I think Sauber and Force India will be strong too and I wouldn’t cross the new teams off the list either. It won’t be so easy to get to the top and actually stay there. Let’s hope Kimi will actually race and manage to win the championship.

Of course, Domenicali will not say anything negative about Kimi – he still needs Kimi to keep 3rd in the Constructor’s Championship!Domenicali admitted that the decision rested with him to decide who the drivers would be. I always thought that Domenicali made so many wrong decisions – weil, this is the worst! And I’m sure we’ll see it soon.Ferrari have always prided themselves with being one big happy family. What a dysfunctional family then! You don’t kick out a family member. i would think that you would give priority to that person before an outsider. I can think of only 3 reasons that may have changed during the last few days (as stated by Alonso and Ferrari):1) Santander paid up (which I believe is the most likely)2) Since Renault got caught, Alonso was left without a team and he threatened to go elsewhere unless he was signed up immediately (very likely also)3) Kimi already signed with another team (I’M HOPING IT’S THIS ONE!!!)Kimi CANNOT leave! He still has to kick Ferrari’s and especially Alonso’s A–!!!

@ Kracer, you are so right!! Agree with you completely. I share the same frustration and sadness as all Kimi’s fans are right now, but let’s be clear on something, this sadness is not for not staying in Ferrari, is basically the unrespectfull manner in how they handled things. I have nothing against Alonso, actually I think he is one of the greatest and complete drivers in the paddock, but choosing Massa over Kimi????? Come on!! If there is one reason why I’ve always admired Kimi is because he does what he feels is right and true for himself, he doesnt play any media game, or corporate game. I just hope Kimi gets over this bitter situation, signs with Mc Laren and wins at least two more titles in the next years. (I’m literally dusting off my two beautiful black and silver Kimi-McLaren caps as we speak!!)Cheer up my friends!!

there is a way to be all unite and let all our feeling for Kimi be spread. Feelings and heart that I dedicate to the Person who made me love the Formula 1 races, all kind of race, all motorsport, which now I feel to be a part of.I am sure that this is also for you all. I’ve read in these years this blog and I have to say my great THANK YOU to Saima for the great and passionate work, and only in these few months I started to write there with you in blog. But be sure I’ve ever share it with you, same feelings, same sensations, same KIMI POWER.And now, in a so difficult period for us KIMI supporters and for him too, it’s important to let our voices be loud.If Kimi for you is not only a driver, but a Person, a special Person, that gives us emotions and thay like as he is, for this way of being. If those who criticized him over the years was kicked off from us with a well-motivated reasons and arguments, as I’ve done in these years….and I’m sure is the same for you…. Let us unite and try to think about a way to send Kimi messages and let him receive all our incredible affection for him, and let him feel that he is very important for us and no matter the team but HE! do you think that something can be done? http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/79082 This put me in alarm, heartbreaking, I’ m trying to not thinking about this will be so important to let KIMI feel that we are with him!because he is not a driver on tv but a Person … because he’s KIMI !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I cannot say yet what will happen next year, but I am quite confident about it." -Kimi-2) Add a comment on Kimi’s Blog in the official Ferrari website3) Write a note on the official Ferrari forum (You will not believe the support of the tifosi in there! But I guess Ferrari never even listen to their diehard tifosi fans which is so sad)

Steve Robertson said on MTV3 an hour ago that Kimi WILL STAY in Formula 1 next year, but McLaren won’t necessarily be his future team. There’s a Hungarian site that confirms this, I can translate it: "The Finn world champion’s manager, Steve Robertson confirmed that Kimi Raikkonen will stay in Formula 1 next year, thus they are discussing his future with other teams, such as McLaren. Raikkonen reported earlier today that he is unsure about his future and that he might leave the sport at the end of this season. After breaking his contract with Ferrari, Raikkonen ultimately entered the driver market. He admitted that McLaren is an option for 2010, but it won’t influence his decision. Since then, Robertson insisted that negotiations have already begun with "The Silver Arrows", but they are not the only option. "There are several teams interested in Kimi’s services and we are currently holding discussions with them. Of course, McLaren is also present." – Steve Robertson. Guys, so it looks like McLaren isn’t a done deal after all – either that or they’re keeping the lid tightly on it for now. I don’t know what to think – I would like Kimi to leave F1 when he wants to, at a time of his own choosing, and in a blaze of glory. Not now, not like this. In the commercial world, it’s all about money, and I don’t for a moment believe that it’s all down to Kimi’s personality, like LDM says. Reading his interview on Autosport really got me angry. He waxes lyrical about how brilliant Alonso was in Singapore, but what about Kimi’s heroic drive at Spa, and how he pulled out podium after podium from that wretched car? It all seems to count for nothing now. To me, the most galling thing that he said was: "We needed a team player and Alonso is that…" What has Kimi been but a team player all the time he’s been with Ferrari? He’s still dedicating himself to securing 3rd place in the championship for Ferrari, not a bitter word, even when he’s been so unceremoniously and humiliatingly dumped from the team. You can’t get a greater team player than that. Ferrari got free cash plus a free Alonso. It’s simple as that. And Domenicali was Kimi’s executioner. There, I’ve finished my rant – had to bottle it up all day at work. Will try to be cool and sensible from now on… 🙂 And thanks guys, for listening – I’m glad to have all you fellow Kimi fans to commiserate with, and thanks to Saima for this wonderful forum – otherwise, all this would be pretty insupportable.

I really can’t imagine my life without him 😦 😦 😦 Oh please stay Kimi! Probably Brawn & McLaren are the best options. If both can provide him a winning car, I think probably Brawn would be better option even I wish to see him drives the silver arrow again unfortunately they already have a superstar~Hamilton already. who is the same kind of people like Alonso or Massa. These drivers are very good talking and how to draw attention. I quite believe that 1 winning team can’t affort to have to ‘super’ stars, it definately will have conflict of interest. It is absolutely difficult for team to give fairness all the time.Alonso is always BIG mouth! His moves is indicated as one the most ‘opened secret’. He is now over joy with his move to his dream team & he can’t hide his excitement so just can’t stop talking. Kimi said he before that he wish to end his career in Ferrari before but who will expect this thing happened the end of his 3rd year in the team?! So let Alonso, LDM & Ferrari busy talking of their dream. We will wait & see what happen after 1 or 2 years.

Guys, you must read these comments from Kimi (from TurunSanomat.fi) that AzShadow and Wolfie kindly translated:—————————–Kimi said to TS that he could have continued in Ferrari if he had insisted but it wouldn’t have been very useful if they had wanted to get rid of him. He didn’t want to leave arguing there so he got his compensation (Santander money) and left.Andrea Stella had some nice words about Kimi too, especially about his four consecutive podiums:"Kimi was able to do so many things behind the wheel that our engineers’ advice wouldn’t have been of help there.""In that sense Kimi is better than Michael Schumacher. When I was working as Michael’s data engineer we always had to tell him accurately how he could drive faster in different corners according to the computer. With Kimi you don’t need these kind of advice. He finds the solutions himself."————————KIMI TOOK HIS SACKING EASYTurun Sanomat got a rare special interview with Kimi Räikkönen in Suzuka. How do you feel now?– Allright – I think that even better now than during the last Thursdays in the races. At least I don’t have to speculate with anyone anymore about my driving for Ferrari.Did you feel like you would be hanging from a rope the last weeks?– I think it went like that according to the press. But whatever happened in the final games left me with a feeling that I did pretty good in this whole thing. I have nothing to complain about. When did you find out that Fernando Alonso would take your place next season?– Not a very long time ago. I could have drove the next year if I would have insisted on it. But it makes no sense to do that if for some reason someone else wants differently.– It made no sense to stay here and fight back against anyone. I got a compensation for it and they got what they wanted. Both parties got what they wanted, Kimi said.Do you feel pressure to finish your F1-career here?– None whatsoever. I can now make a deal with anyone I want if I want to do so. If I wouldn’t be driving in F1 I wouldn’t have made that deal with Ferrari either.Your main goal is to get to a winning team in the future also?– Exactly. I will not make a deal unless I get into a car that I can win with and drive for the championship. I won’t go driving in to hobby-teams. It would do me no use. There aren’t many options who can offer me a car I want.Is it McLaren then?– There aren’t many teams where there even would be vacant seats. McLaren is one option. I was there for 5 years and know most of the people. Let’s see what happens. It depends on many things.– I have no rush but some teams will want my answer at some point.Do you feel empty after all this public bashing?– My feelings haven’t really changed at all. I’m sure that after this the reporters will start asking me about my next contract. What about your 3 years in Ferrari?– The WDC-year went well and I got victories. Last season started well but then there were some races that I should have won but didn’t. Then all of a sudden they just changed parts in the car and it wasn’t a good thing. It took a long time before I got back to real business. But it was already too late for me.Was Ferrari’s car even once like you would have wanted it to be?– It’s been good now too. It’s nice to drive and it works like I want it to work. But we have just been too slow, Kimi laughs. What is Räikkönen’s dream car – oversteering meaning precise in the front?– An oversteering car is never fast. Same with understeering car. You never get the car up to 110.In McLaren the front always took the corners really sharply – just like Räikkönen wants?– It is a different car than Ferrari. Mostly it was a good car for me but the tyres were different when I drove there. Tyres have changed the thing it a lot.How would you feel to be Hamilton’s team mate?– It would not be up to that for sure. But there are many things that I have to look into first. What kind of a reinforcement is Alonso to Ferrari?– Let’s see what he hustles there. What kind of relations will you have with Ferrari?– Good. I don’t have anything to do with this matter. How I have drove or what I have done here had nothing to do with it. This decision wasn’t in any way depending on that. It’s easy to know what decided it. You get everything with money.– I’m not sad. I don’t cry. This possibility was always existing. It isn’t the first time when someone’s contract is terminated and it isn’t the end of the world. How many years do you still want to continue in F1?– It depends on many things. I don’t have any plans beforehand. Let’s see what happens, Kimi says.Turun Sanomat, SuzukaHeikki Kulta————————————I think we can be proud of Kimi more than ever after these past few months!

Hey guys, thank you saima for pretty much everything you dowith regards to (is that how you say it?) Ferrari’s comments and Alonso’s ‘anything from ferrari is a stepback’ and the Schumacher’s comment Felipe is N1 and all the others which we had to hear/read I have one thing to say ‘He who trows mud, looses ground’ – that’s itI feel that they can’t understand what Kimi is about or they can’t accept it… it’s sad but not an exception. I’m done worrying, you won’t change their minds or their ways of thinking by being angry. You just continue and maybe one day they’ll get or not.. I hope Kimi continues in F1, we’ll see where he ends up, one things for sure, Kimi will always be Kimi. x

@Amol: I know man…the uncertainty and wait is paining me too. I feel you. But my point was… Kimi is a winner, even if he chooses to retire (trust me, I don’t want that yet either, I’ll be out of a job). Main thing is… he has kept his honour 🙂

Thanks, Saima for posting this – that’s our Kimi. A consummate professional and a gentleman in every way. Let’s enjoy the last few races of the season with him – it would be wonderful if he could pull something really special out of the bag at Suzuka and give us all something to remember, whether or not he leaves or stays. 🙂 I’d like Kimi to end the season on a high – he deserves it, after having such a tough year. I don’t think he’d be talking to other teams and stringing them along if he wasn’t interested in staying – it’s not his style – suspect it all boils down to sorting out the contractual nitty gritty now. I’ve seen negotiations before, and they take time – a good negotiator never opens with the position that he hopes to settle with, and everyone always pushes for the best bargain, and invariably the lawyers will hold things up 🙂 It will take time, but we’ll know – hopefully sooner rather than later.

thanks saima for posting the interview. i woke up late so after reading what you’ve posted, evry single thing i wanted and wished to say have been said by these wonderful kimi fans…. i agree with everything you guys said.but i still want to say, Kimi has been big part of my life, just like everybody on this site, he is one person i admired a lot, i’m proud of, whom i support continuously through ups and downs, whom i hope the best would happen to him for and whom i look forward to know about every single day….. i feel a little bit weird saying these because i don’t really know him in person or not one of my friends and family but i guess that what fans would do and saySo, whatever he choose to do, i’ll support him cause i believe he’ll make a decision that’s the best for him. He’s a very wise and respectable man…thanks again saima for this site that gather all kimi fans that truly support him…Keep Flying Kimi & Keep Flying Kimi Fans!!!xoxoxop/s: english is not my mother tongue, so it’s not my best language, but i’ve tried my really best to say what my heart want to say.=D

Guys just read that Kimi went into the Mclaren garage twice already today. So that shows he want to be Mclaren! Also Heikki was seen having a long chat with Bob Bell (Renault Chief). You know where I`m going with this. :PBtw, Toyota is trying to Hunt for Kimi and Kubica for 2010. In fact John Howett has said that the car for 2010 has started and it`s going to be a very good car. He mentioned that the Toyota team need drivers who can get that car to podiums and wins. Anyway, C`mon Martin Whitmarsh! Get KIMI! Good Luck Kimi.

Yep, I read that on NobleF1’s twitter too! How awesome is that lol But Kimi probably just wants to avoid the media attention when he’s walking through the paddock to his own garage.Kimi is going to be fine, he won’t retire yet. There are other teams apart from McLaren who will be strong in the next few years.

Probably true. But I still think that he did go to Mclaren garage at least once intentionally. He knows where he wants to be next year.I don`t think there is a chance of retirement. Just for reference, Since we have n`t heard much from Robertsons after the Ferrari Announcement. I bet they are doing everything to get Kimi into a Big Team. Whether that would be Mclaren, Brawn we`ll wait and see. ( Toyota is a weird option though. )Our hero is not going anywhere folks. 😛

Hey Amol (and the others!) you should join our forum, plenty of interesting stuff to talk about: http://krs.20.forumer.com/index.phpLadora just posted what she heard in the BBC F1 coverage of practice (I haven’t watched it yet) :————-Apparently yesterday during SD’s interview with the press where SD was commenting on the whole Alonso/Ferrari situation, Kimi was actually standing at the back in the same room with one of his mates, WATCHING and LISTENING to what SD was saying. It’s kinda significant because Kimi usually scoots off to somewhere else the moment any media is near him. Ted likened it to Kimi saying "Oh well, go and then, let’s see what you (Stefano) have to say about me!"Me thinks it’s Kimi sharpening his sword and getting defiant!Kravitz also commented on how much more smiley and relaxed Kimi was during his press interview yesterday, and that he carried himself very well (which James Allen also mentioned in his blog).—————So ya…I think Kimi’s out for revenge too now lol

Hi everyone,I was very happy to read in F1-Live the title of their article "Raikkonen’s services in demand".It just goes to show that the other teams (Toyota and McLaren and I wonder who else) all value and appreciate Kimi much more than the team he just left. I think that some good has come out of all this . They say that when you are down and out, that’s when you know who your real friends are . All this pain for Kimi will make him realize how important he is to the people whose life he has touched – us, other Kimi fans, a lot of the tifosi, a lot of other F1 fans, some of his team (Stella in particular), and now, all the other F1 teams who are hoping to get him. For some, he may be important simply because of his talent, for others because of his character, and for others, because of his friendship and love. Whatever the reason, all these people are now united in saying good things about him (some who would not normally have a reason to speak up) and in giving him their all out support. I know because I’ve checked out so many other websites and so many people have written so many beautiful things.I would like to believe that whether he stays in F1 or not, he will look back at this time and feel happy because he will know that he was never unwanted and never alone – that there are people who care for him even if they just see him on TV or in the media, and those that he really knows who are really his true friends and love him, not because he is a great racer but because he is a great human being. I think that, in the end, this will be more important. On another note, my friend said she watched an interview with Kimi in Suzuka and she said that for the first time he was so emotional and was teary-eyed during the interview when he talked about what happened with Ferrari. Anyone else watch it? She said she thinks it was on ESPN but I can’t seem to find it anywhere. ( She watched it on the internet).I actually felt so bad again when she said she thought he was going to cry – but I really want to know what he said…
