Ferrari Team QuotesKimi Raikkonen – 10th: "I couldn’t do any better. The
car was sliding everywhere and I had no grip. In the final part, with
the softer tyres, the situation improved a bit, but by then it was too
late. I closed up to Nakajima and, a few times, I tried to risk a
passing move, but here it’s really difficult to overtake unless the guy
in front makes a mistake. I don’t expect the situation to be much
different next week in Suzuka: it is a very demanding track for the
car, from an aerodynamic point of view and we are lacking in this area.
Having said that, I will be trying my hardest."

Chris Dyer: "It was a very difficult race, for both
Kimi and Giancarlo. Contrary to what has happened in recent races, we
were unable to make the most of the start, which has been one of our
strong points this year. We were already a long way back on the grid
and so our situation was immediately more complicated, especially as
overtaking is virtually impossible here. Today, several cars failed to
finish, or were struggling with brake problems, but we were not able to
exploit that to make it at least into the points. As for the tyre
performance, the softer compound, in the final part of the race proved
to be better than expected in terms of consistency, but it was not
clear enough to decide to use it as from the second stint, which was
the longest one. It’s easy to say things after the event, but I do
really think we made the right choice."

Ferrari soon to confirm Alonso for 2010

Ferrari could announce its 2010 deal with Fernando Alonso as early
as next weekend’s Japanese Grand Prix, with the Spaniard’s move to the
Maranello team now all but confirmed.

With lawyers working hard on the last few details of Kimi
Raikkonen’s release from his contract with Ferrari, a move that will
pave the way for the Finn to return to McLaren, the Maranello-based
outfit has openly admitted that it wants to announce its line-up as
quickly as possible.

Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali said at Singapore on
Sunday night: "I think that as soon as we are ready we will let you
know. We don’t want to wait too long."

When asked by AUTOSPORT if that announcement could come as early as
Suzuka, Domenicali said: "It is a possibility, but it is not
guaranteed."

Neither Ferrari nor Renault are now denying that Alonso is on his
way to the Italian outfit, in a deal that has been widely predicted for
several months.

Renault’s stand-in managing director Jean-Francois Caubet told
AUTOSPORT after the Singapore Grand Prix that his outfit would be sad
to see Alonso leave after this season.

"I think Fernando will miss Renault and Renault will miss Fernando," he explained.

Once the Ferrari-Alonso announcement is made, Renault is expected to
confirm that Polish driver Robert Kubica will lead its team in 2010.

McLaren: We could handle Raikkonen

Mercedes-Benz motorsport boss Norbert Haug says McLaren has no
qualms about slotting in Kimi Raikkonen alongside Lewis Hamilton next
year – as it closes in on a deal with the Finnish driver.

With Ferrari in the final stages of completing moves that will end
Raikkonen’s Ferrari deal a year early, and open the way for Fernando
Alonso to join the Maranello-outfit, sources have confirmed that the
2007 world champion and McLaren are keen to renew their partnership.

And although the signing of Raikkonen for 2010 would give McLaren
one of the strongest driver line-ups on the grid, it could also leave
it exposed to the problems it has faced in the past in managing two
top-line drivers.

However, Haug thinks that McLaren will have no trouble in dealing
with such a situation – and does not risk a repeat of the problems that
marred the outfit when Hamilton was partnered with Fernando Alonso.

"Whatever you can do to get the best available drivers, that is what
you have to do," said Haug. "It’s a question of money, it’s a question
of capability, a question of the amount of talent. Managing two
megastars, I don’t think that honestly it was a problem.

"With Alonso there were some noises to the outside world, but in
reality inside the team everybody did his job and in reality we should
have won the world championship. But it was not due to not having team
orders.

"You can imagine what would have happened in Fernando would not have
blocked Lewis in Hungary, no penalty, one point more and you are there.
This is how it goes sometimes. We won it by one point and we lost it by
one point.

"I stress, I do not confirm that there is change. This is very
important. But managing drivers ifs and whys is the name of the game
and we are qualified to do so."

Although Raikkonen did not enjoy the best of relationships with
former McLaren team principal Ron Dennis, Haug says that the team would
relish the opportunity to have the Finn back.

"Reflecting on our co-operation which was five years, I think that
it was positive," explained Haug. "We should have won at least two
world championships. I have to say we missed one with two points in
2003 but I think an engine failure was one of the reasons, so without
that he could have done it.

"In 2005 he could have done it, in fairness. The engines at that
stage were not as good and reliable as they are now. To have Kimi in
our team winning two world championships would certainly have been a
fair outcome for him. I have a good relationship with him and I’m sure
he would say the same."

Well, It was best out of what was presented to Kimi. But I really enjoyed the way he fought this race. On the limit every lap every corner. Somehow the TV Broadcasters never saw that. Good Luck Kimi for Suzuka. That track is awesome!! 😀

Kimi keeps repeating the effect on the decision of stopping the development in the F60 andon the other hand Domenicalli insists they were aware of the price to pay in the last races…but they still have the goal to end 3rd in the championship…my question is how?? if all the teams are still improving in each race until the end and they are not. I don’t know, I think somehow they want to make it look like it is the driver’s fault and make Kimi look bad when it is the team. Kimi is aware of that game and is letting everybody know about it in his classy and polite way.

Hi all, Kimi fought really hard – I was really holding my breath when he was all over Nakajima, but it’s really difficult to pass on a circuit like this. 😦 Oh well… on to the next race, and maybe Kimi will have some luck in Suzuka. Unfortunately I couldn’t get any driver’s parade photos because the marshalls decided to line up in front of us during the parade and blocked our view completely!! 😦 But I do have some rather psychadelic race day shots of Kimi, which I hope will reflect his sheer speed and audacity. Hope you guys like them:http://www.flickr.com/photos/whippeltree/sets/72157622446521458/

Thanks Saima – glad you liked the photos. I guess the sooner they confirm things, the better – I’ll have to go get a McLaren shirt, lol! Looks like his flinging his cap into the crowd at Monza really was a goodbye gesture to the tifosi after all – at the time I thought it was rather unusual for Kimi to be so emotional. I’m kind of sad to see him leave the team in this way, but hey, it would be truly awesome if he could celebrate his return to Macca with a WDC!! 🙂

It would be a pitty if Ferrari confirm a new driver for 2010. Kimi did and do a fantastic job even when everybody knows how awful is the F60, they never made a car that suits Kimi. The most painful thing (if everything is confirmed) is to know that alonso will replace Kimi just to hear that make me sick. KIMI IS THE BEST

Oh, and by the way, I always thought that McLaren had much better style with their clothing and gear anyway…Kimi looked so good in black!

Somehow, red has never quite suited his colouring… Lol! Looks like there are lots of tifosi (including me) crossing over to McLaren if Kimi joins them. One of the fans I met on Saturday was also hoping that Kimi would stay, but if Alonso joined Ferrari, he’d follow Kimi wherever he went. All I hope is that he’ll get equal treatment over there – it would be great if he had his old mechanics and engineers back! 🙂

His contract expired after 2006 too, so it’s not like Kimi is doing anything ‘wrong’ by going back..Kimi worked very well with his mechanics there, and I hope he gets the same crew and race engineer back (Mark Slade) because they work with Heikki who Kimi should replace anyway. Hamilton’s engineer is Phil Prew.

That’s a very moving tribute, Saima – thanks for sharing. A few months ago, I really wanted him to stay, now… things are different. I’m not sure if it’s true, but I read on another forum that Kimi’s dream was to drive for Ferrari one day – he got his wish, but it’s a great pity that it’s all coming to such an end, after a fairytale beginning in ’07. I would like to think that Ferrari would always be special to Kimi despite all that’s happened – he won his first WDC with them (I’m saying first, because I believe that there will be more!) and that’s something that will never change. I hope that he’ll be able to look back and remember the good times without the bad, when this whole episode is over.

Over the past few weeks I have often said to myself that I just hope that Ferrari will do the right thing. That has not happened. I am disappointed with Ferrari. They should take ownership of the fiasco of this year. A team from nowhere (Brawn and Red Bull) showed them how it should be done. Kimi won them the world championships in 2007 and this year he has done an extraordinary job with very ordinary F60. He is an honest, no nonsense guy. He keeps to himself and I like that about him. No tantrums, no fuss. I don’t know Alonso but he comes across as a driver who cannot deal with competition within in his own team. He wants to be the main peanut in the packet. Then too, he has been linked with unsavoury incidents that I can’t condone. I have followed F1 in earnest since 2007 and what I have seen of Kimi as a driver has always made me proud to be a fan. I think he is a very fair driver and not someone who will deliberately cause other drivers trouble, unlike Fernando and Michael Schumacher. If I were Massa I will be very uncomfortable right now… Finally I am so glad that Kimi will still be driving next year. I must admit that I follow F1 because of Kimi. Keep flying, Kimi! I hope McClaren will outclass Ferrari in 2010!

Suzette, I agree with every single word you wrote! :)And Saima, that was a really sweet tribute to Kimi. To be honest I am really looking forward to Kimi’s potential move to McLaren. Ferrari have really annoyed me in the past couple of months- they have treated our Kimi very unfairly, and I wont forgive them for that! The team have always had a soft-spot for ”Felipe Baby”, and I wonder now how many times they gave Massa better strategies etc. Anyway from my point of view they can have Alonso, and I’m sorry if anyone disagrees, but I think he is just a trouble-maker- the team don’t deserve an excellent driver and an easy-going person like Kimi. They don’t know what they are losing. All I can say Kimi is: Keep Flying!! No matter what team you drive for next year!

Kimi and Ferrari fairytale is coming to an end now. It is very hard to say what are the reasons for this. I think one reason is, that Alonso was willing to drive against Kimi with same kind of car. There is a petition in here:http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/kimi_in_ferrari/signatures.htmlThis is for Kimi to continue in Ferrari. Of course it will not happen. Anyway as a protest you could sign it.Personally I will laugh, when Kimi wins next years world championship with McLaren and Ferrari will lose with Alonso.

I would love to see Kimi back in silver! Ferrari makes a terrible mistake not going for the Raikkonen/Alonso line-up but I think this will work out better. Ferrari is definitely favoring Massa since Todt left, but Fernando is known for is valuable technical feedback. So Ferrari will develop the car more to Alonso’s style (at the end of 2008, Ferrari changed the F2008 back to an earlier form (without the ridiculous shark-fin) because it suited Kimi better), which is too bad for baby-Felipe. No more poles for him.At McLaren they always said that Kimi was the fastest driver they ever had (which means, according to them he’s faster then Senna). But his talent and his raw pace has made him lazy at some point. Lewis has the unfficial no 1-status at McLaren, and it will be crucial that Kimi outpaces him from the start. He is always giving everything in the race, and he’s always a gentleman (so media-horny Lewis will have to behave if he doesn’t want to end up looking like Montoya) but this will take pure commitment. Taking revenge on the Scuderia should light the spark ;)@Selma: Me too, Kimi always had such rotten luck with the McLaren. It always looked like Lewis (and Jenson in the first part of this season) cruised to his title. They only way he gets DNF’s, is by making driver errors. So unfair…I hope you still have your old fan-wear!

So the moment has come – and I feel incredibly sad. From today, I no longer count myself among the tifosi.

oh well, now maranello’s voice and tifosi will say that Kimi has no more interest in driving with ferrari and he will not race as his best till the end of the championship.

@pernilla – They can say what they like. But we know the truth – Kimi will continue driving his heart out like the champion he is, just like he always has. More than ever, I would like to see him win in Suzuka. Reading Kimi’s statement (even if it’s just a Ferrari PR thing) just now really made me feel really low – he really doesn’t deserve this, and still, he takes it all with such dignity. I hope McLaren confirms him soon.

I feel so sad:((((((( and for some reason I’m feeling that he doesn’t want to leave Ferrari. That stupid team, now they finally get Aonso. I’m so angry. Wish Kimi goodluck wherever he decides to go. Keep flying Kimi we are with you!!!!!!!

So, it’s official.Despite all the talk these past few weeks, it still does not stop my heart from breaking…But, I guess, it’s time to move on. No matter how painful things are. That’s life.As usual, Kimi was a gentleman and only said good things. I didn’t expect anything different from him. And yet, somehow I see the sadness in his words and I feel sad, too.But with every ending there is a new beginning, and with every sorrow will come joy.We must now wait for the next, more exciting announcement…where Kimi will be next season! Here’s hoping for another WDC in a much better car…and a much better team!!!KEEP Flying, KIMI! We’re behind you all the way!

There’re tears coming from my eyes..i’m crying..;-(I dont know what my feeling right know..for some reason,i feel so sad..its look like kimi want to stay at ferraris but they dont want him.Since i’m know formulaOne,i start to become their suppoter.I’m buying their t-shirt,cap bla bla..and i’m so proud to be one from the million of their fans.I’m feel so proud wearing the t-shirt with the prancing horse logos. My family also started to say that i’m so addicted to ferrari and F1.But know,i dont know..i feel that i hate them, how cruels are them. Its all because of KIMI RAIKKONEN!!Then its time for changes..
