Steve Robertson: One of Kimi’s best races

From TurunSanomat.fi by Heikki Kulta | Translation courtesy of Wolfie

"Victory! There was no doubt Kimi could win but
when you have to wait for it for a year and a half it feels
fantastically good. The feeling is almost like the feeling when Kimi
won the WDC in Brazil in 2007," Steve Robertson smiles.

Q: How surprising was the challenge coming from Giancarlo Fisichella and Force India?

Steve Robertson: "It was 44 laps of constant racing and fighting against
Fisichella. Withougt the slightest exaggeration I can assure that this
was one of Kimi’s best perfomances ever. He had to give his everything
each lap and couldn’t afford one mistake. Otherwise it would have been
like in Brazil six years ago when Fisichella was announced the winner
after Kimi had controlled the whole race.
Thank God that both teams fuelled the car so that Kimi and Fisichella both came in at the same time.

Q: Räikkönen could have had 5 Spa victories in a row. Only Senna has in the F1-hisrtory won Monaco five times in a row.

Steve Robertson: Tell me about it! Last year it was only short of one lap. If Kimi
had been able to change his tyres for the last lap we would be
celebrating his 5th Spa-victory in a row. It all came down to the last
corner.

Q: Why is Spa-Francorchamps a special place for Räikkönen? He won the
race here in 2000 in Formula Renault the first time he visited the
track?

Steve Robertson: In motorsporting there just are special tracks that suit a
specific driver. Some track is better for one top driver and he will
always be quick there – even if the car wouldn’t be a winning car.
Where in Germany it’s always difficult it’s seems to turn out best in Belgium again.
Always when we talk with Kimi about Spa you can see how much he
is always on fire and this is the place he especially likes to come to
and challenge for the victory. Afterall we are talking about Spa. It’s
a place where every driver has big experiences. It only lifts the
respect for Kimi’s continious winning on this greatest racing track
higher.

Q: How crucial was it that the SC came to the track right after the first lap?

Steve Robertson: Of course it was from Kimi’s point of view a beneficial
coincidence that he got near Fisichella and could pass him. Kimi’s
timings in this GP fell into place.
The three last races have been bull’s eyes. The car isn’t really
fast anywhere but Kimi has drove aggressively and taken everything out
of it each time.

Q: 25 races without a victory. Do you still remember Barcelona in April 2008?

Steve Robertson: I remember it very well but every GP after that with no victory has made this time feel like an eternity.

I’m thinking about what is thinking ferrari about Kimi. they take fisichella for monza and maybe for other races-I don’t know- and Im orrified about what can happens….ferrari will play at ferrari’s way letting him win his first race in monza, in italy and with ferrari and giving him the best car?? italians newspapers writes about a ferrari raised up from fisico….but….I think that the only one that raises up the team is Kimi, in good and bad fortune and without saying a word about something dark that sometimes happens…..
