Thursday at Spa, Interview with Kimi

From Formula1.com  &  Ferrari.com | Listen to Kimi here

Q: Kimi, is Spa one of you favourite tracks?
Kimi Raikkonen:
Yes, it’s a nice place and I always like to race here.

Q: Do you think it’s possible here for Ferrari to have a fourth podium in a row?
KR:

We will try, but we have to wait for tomorrow to get an idea of what
will be possible. First you have to drive to see what is realistic.

Q: Is a win possible on a dry track?
KR:

As I said before, we have to wait until tomorrow. Now there’s no point
in thinking of how we could do. The car has been good in the last three
races – as good as it can get, I think. But remember, that track in
Valencia is close to that of Monaco and so it behaved better than at
many other circuits.

Q: How much of a help will KERS be on this track?
KR:

It helps at every race. I haven’t been in a meeting yet to find out
where we will use it, but usually in the first corner and at the exit
of the last corner – and somewhere in between – but that will be
discussed with the engineers.

Q: There are a lot of rumours about you next season. What is your position now?
KR:

It has not changed since the last race. I have a contract. I don’t
worry about me – there are other guys out there who worry much more. As
I said, I have a contract and it’s not me who makes the decision, so it
makes no difference. I don’t worry.

Q: How many engines do you have left for the rest of the season?
KR:
I don’t know. But we haven’t broken any of them, so we should have plenty.

Q: Are you satisfied with your personal performance this year?
KR:

I’ve given my best at every race. For sure, there have been races where
I haven’t been happy how it went, but that’s always part of racing.
Sometimes you have bad races and you are disappointed with how it went,
but that happens every year. Overall I am happy how things are going.
For sure, we always want to be higher up.

Q: You have
delivered good results in the last two races, so are you upset that the
car has not developed better throughout the year?
KR:
Sure, we
would like to be better in the standings, but I think for now it is
okay as it would take out time of the development of next year’s car.
Once you fall behind you don’t have much of a chance to catch up. We
still have some chances to get good results and get points, and of
course everybody wants to win.

Q: Do you think that Luca (Badoer) will do better here than in Valencia?
KR:

It should be easier here because he has been here before and has more
knowledge about the car. But how well he’s doing we will see in
practice.

By the way guys Kimi also said he can race for another team IF HE WANTED TO, check this MTV3 article out, (it’s translated by Wolfie)—————————————–MTV interviewed Kimi today:Kimi Räikkönen assures that he would find a F1-car for next season.- I have a contract for next season and that’s all I can tell you. It seems like everybody are more concerned about this than I am. Like I’ve said before, I have a contract with Ferrari for next season. If something else happens it won’t be my decision, Kimi says. For the first time Räikkönen hints that it might be possible to drive in another team than Ferrari if his work there comes to an end.- I would find a car from this paddock if I would want to. That’s not a problem. Of course it depends on many other things too. We’ll see what whoever decides and where it ends. There’s always all kinds of stories but I haven’t bothered my mind with them, Räikkönen said to MTV3.Do you want to find a car for next year?- I do have a contract. I wouldn’t have signed the contract if I wouldn’t want to drive. Of course it depends on many things – whatever happens. One can worry about it then. We’ll look at them sometime later, Kimi said.- I’ve done my best in every race but there has been few races when I haven’t been completely satisfied. But that’s how it goes in this sport. I doubt anyone has had a season where they would have been satisfied in every race and the same applies to me too. All and all considering the limitations of our car I’m pretty satisfied. I mean we want to win races too but with this package we haven’t had possibilites to do that, Kimi said.——————————————————http://www.mtv3.fi/urheilu/f1/uutiset.shtml/arkistot/f1/2009/08/941101

"I have a contract. I don’t worry about me – there are other guys out there who worry much more…it’s not me who makes the decision" – well said Kimi you words hit like bullets and as simple as they may be, are so powerful.Hmmm…i really wonder who these "others" are, anyone has a guess??!! 😛 (i think we all know the answer to that ;))For sure u will respect ur part of the contact but will Ferrari do the same that is the big question?! I still don’t understand why they extended his contract which was supposed to end in 2009 if they were thinking of bringing Alonso…that’s sooooo unprofessional not to mention shameful for such a legendary team but no one even bothers thinking about that part, all they care for is if Alonso will come to Ferrari & when blah, blah, blah…If u ask me Ferrari will be stupid if they repalce Kimi or should i say sack, whatever & i’m not saying that bcoz i’m a Kimi fan honestlyFernando is certainly an excellent driver but he isn’t God and he makes as much mistakes as Kimi if not more, plus obviously the people at Ferrari havn’t learned anything from Alonso’s experience with Mclaren (or maybe they’re too blinded by the money Santander is givin them) the guy is totally arrogant and i wasn’t surprised when Ron Dennis said Alonso threatened him to report the team to FIA himself if he wasn’t given number one status within the McLaren team…i’m sorry to say that but Alonso only seems to do well when he has a lesser talented teammate so maybe Ferrari will keep Badoer hahaha…& sack Massa too in order so that Fernando can win or poor Felipe will have to play 2nd just like he did in 2006 for Schumi :(At the end just like Kimi said it’s not him who makes the decision so it makes no difference@ Saima, i think Kimi’s starting to suspect that Ferrari might replace him that’s why he said that, still i think it’s great that kimi is so cool about it and plus he doesn’t need Ferrari he’ll find himself a good team & teach those boneheads once and for all how to respect him & show them his true worth, screw Di Montezemolo, Domenicali, Alonso and everyone else they can go & burn in hell f*** them!! :PWe love u Kimi & we will always support no matter what may happen…Good Luck in everything u do & always Keep Flying!!!!!!!

Thanks for this, Evenstar As a Kimi and Ferrari fan, I must say that I’d be very, very disappointed with the team if they let him go, and I’d definitely continue supporting him for wins if he went elsewhere (even to Macca!!). I’m kinda resigned to the possibility that the management is trying to pry him out of his contract – Kimi’s latest statements to the press do hint pretty strongly that something is up – but hey, I’m happy if he goes to a team that appreciates and respects him for his enormous talent. There has just been so much Massa-favouritism lately (Ferrari’s Spa write-up mentions Massa’s win last year, and Schumi’s victories there, but nothing about Kimi, who’s the undisputed King of the track!!) that it’s become rather annoying. Anyway it’s good to see that there are so many Kimi supporters at the Planet F1 forum. Our boy is winning just about every poll!! 🙂 Crossing my fingers and toes for P1 at Spa!!!

It’s strange how over and over I’ve heard commentators say "a mature driver is one who does exactly what is required of him to get the job done". Kimi was required to drive the perfect race. HE DROVE THE PERFECT RACE. Yet, instead of applaud him all the attention is going to Fisichella and how how Kimi was ‘lucky’ to win. How many drivers have won the race, not because they have faster carS, but because of better strategies. Those drivers/teams were applauded. Why does the same not apply to Kimi and the team? He did an amazing job with a car that was not ‘so amazing’ so how about Kimi gets the credit! How often have we heard praises for Alonso for pushing the Renault car to it’s limits and getting points when the faster cars on track didn’t score points? I am so tired of all the negative press. And if the rumours are true, I will be disappointed with Ferrari if they let the ICEMAN go. KIMI, YOU WERE JUST PERFECT!!!
