Kimi’s Column: British GP Review

From Ferrari.com

We had some pretty interesting improvements on
the F60 at Silverstone, such as an improved front suspension and a new
front wing. On such a fast track it was important to understand how
much downforce we could have: we can say for sure that the car wasn’t
bad in terms of the set up, but we’re still missing downforce to be
able to compete with the leaders. Having said that, the developments go
in the right direction.

The qualifying seemed very promising. I was very happy with my lap
in Q2, but then, when I had refueled the car didn’t go as good anymore.
Starting from the fifth row my goal was to gain some points. This time
I had a good start: the main straight is quite long, but it wasn’t
enough to pass Nakajima. I came on the grass and then I was on fifth
position, impossible to gain more, because my first stint was too
short. I couldn’t overtake: in the fast corners at Silverstone it’s
very difficult to stay behind the car in front of you, especially when
you have less fuel on board than the first ten cars on the grid.

So I
had a difficult race. In the end I gained one point. Better than
nothing, but still a poor result. We are on position four in the
Constructors’ Championship and I think that this is our current value.
We’re out there fighting for third position, but the two teams on the
top are still ahead of us in terms of performance.

After Silverstone we have two whole weeks to get ready as good as
possible for the last two races before the summer break. The first of
these two races is at the Nuerburgring. We’ll get there with some
improvements. It’s a track with more slow corners and more braking
points than the English circuit. We have to be more competitive, but it
will also depend from the improvements the others can make. As usual.

I want to congratulate Sebastian for his great race. If the Brawns
had some problems we could benefit: the next circuit is very different
from Silverstone. We’ll see how things go before we make any
conclusions.

i don’t think that the race was boring for him. I mean passion doesn’t depends on results. For sure results are necessary for the team and so on, but he had some fights during the race. More fights than in any other race before (THIS season), when i remember correctly…meanwhile does anybody know what that sign mean??? he does it nearly evererytime, when he sees himself on the screen.

@ Lena: Agreed, he never did it to other drivers. I recall that he congratulated in his official column to Sebi (China 09 & Monza 08) and also Heikki (Hungary 08). I sense that the trio are really close buddies; seen them chatting during the drivers’ parade.

@ Lena – I love Spa! Hope you have a great time! Btw they’re starting to put up the street lights for the night race here in Singapore. I passed them on the way to work today and started getting excited. 🙂 Hehe… I think Sebs, Kimi and Heikki really get along – there are so many driver’s parade photos of them hanging out together!!

Kimi’s British GP Review, originally translated from Finnish by Wolfie:———————–LET’S TRY TO GET HIGHERI didn’t expect too much from Silverstone. It was just exciting to see where we are in the car development race. We had new pieces in Ferrari but I have to say that the others seemed to go damn fast the whole weekend.Silverstone is kind of a fast track where downforce decides and even though we have got more and more of it all the time it still isn’t enough for us to fight for the podiums. If I should say something about the weekend then at least there were no problems with the balance of our car. You can feel very well that we are going in the right direction but while others improve it’s difficult to get higher. The car just isn’t fast enough and that’s why you can’t do much in the race.In qualification I was pleased after Q2. That lap felt good and I expected a better position. But when they put fuel in the tank the car somehow just didn’t work the same way. With our strategy we couldn’t afford the 5th position. The start though was what I came to get. The straight in Silverstone is long and you can take advantage of it.I got up four positions but Nakajima was in front of me when I had to cruise through the green. After that it was boring. The first short stint didn’t leave any chances to improve your position. Then after the stop I was there in about the middle stages and couldn’t do anything when I couldn’t get into Silverstone’s fast corners close enough to the one in front of me so that I could try and overtake.I got one point. It’s better than zero but it wasn’t what I came for. Vettel won and drove fantastically. We’ll see if even he has a spot from where he can fight for the championship. Let’s see the next couple races because the tracks are so different when compared to Silverstone. We have a couple of work-filled weeks ahead of us so that we can improve the car for midsummer’s two important races. I dig Nürnburgring although I’ve never won in Germany. We will get a big package of new pieces and if everything falls in place we are in a better stitch than in Silverstone, that’s for sure. But we go forward just the same way as the season does. I won’t promise anything. Let’s just see what we can accomplish. It ain’t at least up to me for not trying. The good thing is also that the whole situation in the sport calmed down. Now everybody can focus on the racing just like they should too.————————————-

yay, thanks alot saima!!! it’s clearly much better!@marilyne: you’re so damn right, the race was boring for him and you can quite read his mind!good!=)hope he wont be having any boring or bad races later this season cause we’re heading to the mid year’s important races already…oh, come on i’m really looking forward to another podium finish for kimi!he should win at least one race this season! though i believe the ferrari engineers and mechanics are working their asses off, i think it’s just like what kimi said, it’s still not enough cause others are improving too!well yeah, i guess saima is quite busy nowadays, let’s give her a break she deserves it. hope all goes well for you too!but i’m looking forward to any news or reviews about kimi, it would be much appreciated!Keep flying Kimi!!!!xoxoxo
