Kimi’s Column: Monaco GP Review

From Ferrari.com

I wasn’t too happy with the third place at the Monaco GP. For sure it
was the best result in the last time, but that was nothing new to me
and we knew that we could arrive on a place on the top. When the
leaders in the Championship are so far ahead in the classification, in
the end it’s only a victory that counts. Being back on the podium is a
nice reward for the whole Team.

The hard work of the last weeks finally bears some fruit, which is
really positive for all of us. We know that we’re on the right way now:
there are still some minor things to be done but sooner or later we
will win. We’ll show up with further improvements of the F60 in the
upcoming races and we hope we can then challenge the leaders even more,
in the qualifying and in the race.

The Monaco qualifying is so much more important than on other tracks
and we’ve almost done a  perfect job: we missed the pole by 25
thousandsth of a second. Not starting from the first position means
that it’s very likely you won’t win. Furthermore the second position on
the grid doesn’t help on this track. You start
from the dirty side of
the track and whenever I found myself in this position I always lost at
least one position in the field, because the tyres spin a lot at the
start. In fact Rubens overtook me, which was really a shame. If I had
managed to stay beind Button I think I could have easily opened a gap.
In the end it was difficult to fight for second position and then there
was this story at the last pit stop, where we lost a couple of seconds,
due to a problem with the right rear wheel. When I took up the race
again I was further behind the Brazilian than before.

We brought home both cars and gained some important points. There were many things at Monaco we can be satisfied with.

I’ll race in a rally in Italy next Saturday, in the  Marca Trevigiana,
and I want to thank the Scuderia that they gave me the possibility to
take part in such a competition. I really enjoy myself and it will be
my first experience on the tarmac after some tests on snow last winter.
As I’m coming from the race track it will be interesting to see what I
will be able to do behind the wheel of the Fiat Grande Punto S2000 on
the roads close to Treviso.

https://i0.wp.com/img27.imageshack.us/img27/5543/evenstarsays.png I feel you Kimi; I was pleased with the result in Monaco but not ecstatic either. The improvement is what counts and this isn’t the first time Kimi has been tested for patience as well as proving his worth. I’m sure the victory will come very soon! You can read Kimi’s Finnish translated column in the comments below – as it’s far better!

So, Kimi will be doing his third rally this weekend and this time it’ll be on asphalt rather than snow. I’m very much looking forward to seeing how that goes – Keep Flying Kimi!

What a great run it was! That time in Q2 was close to the lap-record Schumi set in 2004… in a much faster car. Missing pole on 0.025 scd is just a bitch :S I must say, his strategic moves are sometimes very optimistic (letting Massa close in before the pit-stop, if it wasn’t for Jenson things could have turned out ugly), but then again, it defies his self-confidence. I don’t see him retiring from F1 at the end of this year, he clearly enjoys it again. But if he does (in 2011 or so, right after his dominant 2nd WDC:P), Fiat should enter a Abarth-team in the WRC. They can use some publicity going global and everything. Kimi blows everybody away out there!

Kimi’s Monaco Finnish review column, translated by Wolfie :)—————————THE JUG HOMETo tell you the truth the weekend in Monaco was better than we have had in a long time. But can’t help it. It didn’t quite fall into place there either. Because the only thing I want is to win, it was all the same if I came 2nd or 3rd.The prize jug means much more to the team than it means to me. Those guys work their asses off from morning to evening and it’s a great thing when the results get better. We are getting new blocks for the next race and when the direction is right, like it is, we will take poles and win races sooner or later. It just takes a while before everything goes the way we want. The quali in Monaco was a hundred times more important than in any other place. I pretty much nailed it. I got lucky when the laptime came in the right time. For once it went this way.But since I didn’t get on pole I lost already on Saturday. It seems to go everytime the same way when in the second square. I had to take harder rubbers because otherwise the softer ones would have turned into chew too fast. Barrichello had softer tyres and the cleaner side of the track. He went past me while I was spinning on place.Damn it, it just went like this again. I got busted. I lost the victory in the quali and the 2nd place in the start. If I would have got after the leading car I could have tried harder. I just lost more and more behind Barrichello when he had some problem with his tyres. The rest of the race was just to keep my third place. It was good that both cars finished, we scored good points and I beat my team mate. From here it’s good to continue like the saying goes. The car is better and will get only better the whole time. When we win with it we are where we want to be.I get cool feelings when the team gives me opportunities to drive rally. I go this weekend to Italy and get to try for the first time how the Fiat Punto goes on tarmac. Let’s see how the tarmac man hits the tarmac ground with a rally car. ——————————-
