Kimi’s Column: Malaysia Review (Updated!)

Bandit Chips
Finnish Translation Courtesy of Wolfie

For me this year has started just like the game
Africa’s star back in the old days. I have done two trips already and
on both occasions I turned up the bandit chip. The season couldn’t have
started more worse than this.

Now I have to find really fast the
ruby or at least the horse shoe chip so that I would have a chance to
grab Africa’s star when the season ends.

I mean this was a surprise to all of us. We miss a lot of pace. Nobody could have expected things to turn out this way.

The
whole team is on zero points after two races. Now we have gone back to
the square from where we started from and concentrate on getting the
car better and quickly. The fact is that in both Melbourne and Malaysia
we didn’t have the fastest car and with that car we cannot fight for
the victory. But it’s good enough so that we can get good results if we
just wouldn’t make mistakes.

Now we have made way too many wrong
choices and screwed up. If we would have got it right we would have got
good points from both races.

In Melbourne we had a good pace in
practice. Of course you never know what the others are plotting but at
least if felt that it would go better in Malaysia.

I got a decent laptime in quali. Uptil then everything worked so well that some good points would have been expected.

In
the race nothing went according to our plans. I was able to go up in
the start but then I got stuck behind Alonso. He also used the KERS in
the start and he had a heavy car but was in front of me. But there’s
nothing you can do about that. Screw ups happen and we have had too many
of them.

It’s exciting with KERS. In practice the whole cockpit
was filled with smoke when the batteries heated up. Then my race would
have ended because with the heavy rain there was too much risk. At that
point the game was already lost anyway.

Now we have to wait what
FIA decides about the appeals. It’s an important decision but no matter
what they decide we have to get our car faster and traction better and
fast.

I can’t promise anything about China. I will try to win but it’s ok if I would even get to the podium.

A totally different column, indeed. The
‘official’ columns may not sound like Kimi but that’s because these
official releases are undoubtedly re-worked by Ferrari’s press, as they
publish the same thing on their new website
first, and then Kimi’s website. But his original Finnish versions are
usually quite different and more like the Iceman, and they are released
later. And you will notice that the tone is very different. So don’t
let the official releases deceive you.

We already knew from Australia that the F60 is lacking downforce, I could notice it more in qualifying at Sepang too, and Kimi really did do his best and he was at the maximum for Ferrari in both of the races. There have been these silly discussions about Kimi not being good enough for Ferrari as well as reports and rumours about Michael Schumacher influencing the tyre blunder at Malaysia, which are useless. Let’s just take a break and cool off, but Kimi and Ferrari won’t be sitting back for sure!

In other news, Ferrari have revealed that Kimi will be at London’s Regent Sreet on 6th May
for the official inauguration of the Ferrari Store. I’ll definately be
there to get close for an autograph and a picture! It’s fantastic that
Kimi will be here in London, finally. I’ve been waiting for years.
Fingers crossed for that.

really short review indeed…. and too impersonal IMOyay, maybe and surely far from what he can write himself… i prefer wait for the finish version coz there’s too much unspoken remark there or is it just me? we do this we do that but he could do nothing really himself!!! poor Kimi…a race to forget! at last almost!! the ice cream episode still makes me smile when so much are offended… LOL- i love this cool guy so much!!anyway, great news you will go and see him in London next month, lucky!!! hope you will well enjoy for all your fellows raikko!! you represent us!! and i’m glad for that and for you!!

Hey Saima!! great to know that Kimi will make an appearance in London. Its an awesome experience. This year he made an appearance in Melbourne and I was lucky to get an autograph. But sadly there was sooooo much crowd and he had soo much of Ferrari officials guarding him that u dont really get to get close with him. Wish u luck with the meet :D. TC

Wow, that’s brilliant Shabbir! glad you managed to get your autograph though, I’d be happy just for that. I know Kimi isn’t too ‘warm’ to the public so even if I say hi to him I won’t be surprised if he says nothing back lol *sigh* I know that he’s much more open and kind in less busy places and fans have shared a few words with him so it’s not like he’s rude.

Haha! Yeah Soren, how cute is that! I read your comment in the highlight video post – Ferrari bringing a light weight chassis to China, I guess that’s just one thing of a whole lot more to come in the next few races. Hopefully it’ll all work out!@Shabbir: Oh wow…I have an urge to stalk him when he’s in London too *blushes* LOL! I’ll check your pics out soon then! (My account got deleted ages ago, that’s why I’ve disappeared from facebook)

Finally! The real thing! It sounds so different from the Ferrari press releases…the important thing is that his spirits are up and that he´s willing to fight! We should learn from him whenever we feel down after a race…this man never gives up!Keep flying Kimi!!!
