"I’m so happy it almost hurts. This is the biggest thing that I have been dreaming of since I was a small boy – to be the champion of the world" [Kimi Raikkonen]

https://i0.wp.com/img236.imageshack.us/img236/6773/krsevenstarsmall3aat2.png  Since it is the one year anniversary of Kimi’s world title today, I thought I’d pay tribute to Kimi and the fans with this collection of pictures. It was a day when a miracle happened and the day Kimi’s dream, and our dream, came true. I’ll never forget it. Keep flying Kimi. Enjoy! There’s the highlight video of that weekend too, if you’ve got 15 minutes to spare. Hehe. Download it here through Megaupload or for low quality and size, use Mediafire. And if you have a bit more of video adrenalin left, take a look at Part 1 of The Rising of Kimi. Part 2 is his a tribute to his first year at Ferrari.

Also, in the KRS forum you can read the latest interview with Kimi by the German magazine Autobild Motorsport, courtesy of Miezicat for the translation. No matter how many interviews you have read, you can’t miss this one. There’s always a lot to learn and admire of Kimi. Here’s a snippet:

Mr. Räikkönen do you still enjoy your job?
Of course it makes more fun when you have good results, but sometimes you have a black series. But it does not take me fun of driving. I love it.

What do you find so great?
I just like the feeling to move at the limit.

What’s your problem 2008?
Of course my last races were not good. But I have not lost the speed. But when there is something on the car what bothers me I can not win. We made some wrong decisions. That has cost me the season. But we learned from that and will benefit from it 2009.

Which decisions do you mean?
We changed the car. That was apparently not good for me. In Spa we came back to the old configuration. But at that time I was already behind in the standing. The improvement came too late.

Why does Felipe Massa have fewer problems?
No idea. Probably Felipe has found a better set-up. I have tried to go the same way but although I was not happy with the handling. We had to rebuild the car completely for me. And as I said: slowly I feel better.

How hard is it for you to be beaten by your team mate?
That happens once. But it doesn’t end yet my career. I come back. Although I must admit: Over such a long time, I was never so slow. But I know why and I will stop it.

Who is your favourite for the title?
Lewis is in front but that can change. This I have shown last year. I would not bet my money on anyone. For Felipe and Ferrari it would be nice if he would get the title. But honestly: I don’t care who wins it.

  1. Amazing video Saima…. bring back all the great memories from last year – and this time I also noticed the greatest Kimi fan (you) were in the video too :))   Thank you Saima, for all the work you have done for Kimi and us fans….

  2. I agree AMAZING video Saima – it is good to remember Brazil last year when against all the odds Kimi pulled off what really matteredthe championship!!!

I am so proud of Kimi and the way in very difficult circumstances he has kept good spirits and manages to smile thru it all – Kimi you are AWESOME.  The fact you found some humour last weekend when you had to let Felipe pass you is a testament to your spirit!!!!!!!   You are the BEST!!!!  I am proud to be your supporter (it makes me smile when all Hamsters supporters after 2 seasons try to wind me up – particularly when they only watched F1 for the 1st time this or /and last year).

    Looking forward to 2009 .

Saima you are also amazing – Keep watching our boy he will deliver again!!!!!!!!

Keep Flying Saima – Keep Flying my dearest Kimster!!!!!

  3. *blushes* I thought I’d get used to this lol thanks guys. You really are great too. It’s because of you that I do what I do, really, I wish this was my job. I hope I can do much more next year. I can only draw motivation and inspiration from Kimi, and it actually helps. :)But for now, let’s enjoy the winter – I’ll be hibernating from all the Hamster fever in the UK if/when he becomes champion. Unfortunately, I’ve chosen quite a related topic for my dissertation at uni and I’ll be using Hamster as part of a case study lol!!!!! Turning the negative of this season into a positive y’see…hehe!

  6. Oh dear Saima! This was just amazing, a bit sad to be honest, to look at those pictures and remembering that one year ago we were all celebrating :(…..but it´s ok, I keep telling myself "NEXT YEAR", ha, we´ll get them!We cannot thank you enough for all you do, I myself cannot thank you enough, words just fall short to describe how I feel about this place, about you and about all the wonderful people here at the KRS family. And we stick together no matter what, even if this wasn´t Kimi´s year, we stood by him, and by eachother………and you always manage to do new things and to treat us to wonderful things about Kimi, and I know how much effort you put into it and how much time you´ve sacrificed, for that I bow down to you and say THANK YOU!I liked Kimi before knowing you, but after being on this site for a year, let me tell you I´ve fallen in love with him,and got to "know" a whole lot more about him, what he likes, what he doesn´t, how he thinks, his approach to life…..All that´s left to say is……KEEP FLYING KIMI – KEEP FLYING EVENSTAR!!!*hugs*

  11. That’s the first Kimi biography right? What a title for it 😛 "Iceman"I’m still wondering about Heikki Kulta’s 2007 Kimi Review book, as I heard it will be available in english too?

  12. Hi Saima!I think this is the first Kimi biography. At least I have not heard any other biographys. Petri Nevalainen, who has made this biography, has actually not met Kimi never. Biography is based only interviews of other people, who know Kimi very well. There are no big secrets in this biography. Well, may be I can mention couple of funny things. When Kimi was doing karting, he lost one race for a girl. Then he was so angry, that he almost stop driving. Luckily he didn’t do that 🙂 Other thing happened, when Kimi was in the army, doing his military service. Then he came back from holiday little bit late and try to sneak in, but was penalized of that.I will try to find out if Heikka Kulta’s 2007 Kimi Rewiev book will be published in english too. I will let you all know, if that is happening.

  13. Hey Pekka!Oh my God, that’s hilarious! I’m so glad he didn’t stop driving, hahaha! I wonder who that girl was. And I remember Kimi saying in an interview to Red Bulletin that he was naughty during his military service but he didn’t mentioned getting in trouble. Thanks for the info!

  14. Hiya, Saima you were right about the books, originally I thought Pekka was talking about the same book.  Now I haveHeikka Kulta’s 2007 Kimi Review in my hands :))  Also seen the freshly published "Jäämies" in the bookstore but I think maybe the biography will be too difficult for a non-Finnish reader (very few photos as compared to Heikki Kulta’s Kimi review…), so I think I will wait and see if one day someone will translate it into English.  Thanks to Pekka for the sneak preview.. 😀

  15. Hi Saima and others!Unfortunately Heikki Kulta’s Kimi Rewiev book is not going to be released in english. At least not at the moment. I got an answer from Heikki Kulta himself. Check last comment here:http://blogit.ts.fi/formulablogi/2008/10/19/seitseman-oikein/By the way, may be I can tell you an other funny thing of Kimi’s life. He likes to sing karaoke and actually he has been singing karaoke in a bar quite near the place where I live. Well, seeing couple of videos (with sound) of Kimi singing karaoke, I have to say, that he is certainly better racing car driver than singer…

  16. HaHa….Pekka, I think I saw that video on YouTube…. it was a bit dark so I was not sure if it really was Kimi as it claimed…. but if it’s really Kimi I have to agree with you he’s a much better driver than singer.   😀
