His championship hopes may be all but over, but Ferrari’s Kimi
Raikkonen does have something to celebrate – clinching the DHL Fastest
Lap Award for the second consecutive year.

With three races
still to run, Raikkonen has already racked up an unbeatable 10 fastest
laps this year, his most recent in Singapore. With no other driver
having recorded more than two, Raikkonen will collect the
highly-coveted DHL Fastest Lap Award trophy following next month’s
season finale in Brazil.

On top of that, just one more fastest
lap in 2008 will see Raikkonen break Michael Schumacher’s record of 10
fastest laps in a season, set by the German during his dominant 2004
campaign with Ferrari.

You can see the results of the fastest lap times here. You can also visit DHl’s official website. DHL, who awarded Kimi their first Fastest Lap trophy last season, say to win this award will require pure speed – well, that’s Kimi Raikkonen’s territory!

Every Formula One driver is fast, but is the race winner really the
fastest? Since 2007 DHL has defined a new standard of speed with the
‘DHL Fastest Lap Award’. One driver sets the fastest lap at each race –
the award will go to the man who sets the most over the season. To win
will require pure speed – something DHL, as the world’s leading
logistics provider and Official Logistics Partner of Formula 1, uses to
achieve its goals, shortening international routes, facilitiating
global trade and making the world a smaller place.

It
might not be much consolation to such a difficult year for the champion
but it recognises his speed nonetheless. Congratulations Kimi.
