Ferrari Drop Light System for ‘Lolliop’ in Fuji

https://i0.wp.com/img111.imageshack.us/img111/3914/414124in5.jpgFerrari will go back to using the traditional "lollipop" system in
the Japanese Grand Prix following the problems they had in Singapore.

Brazilian Felipe Massa lost all his chances of scoring a good result
in the night race after the mechanic controlling the innovative lights
system made a mistake and turned the green lights on before the fuel
hose had been detached from the car.

The lights system usually works automatically when the hose is removed, but the system was operated manually in Singapore.

Team boss Stefano Domenicali said Ferrari needed to simplify things
at the moment, and so they will be using the lollipop system in this
weekend’s race in Fuji.

"In this moment we need tranquillity and therefore we prefer to go back to the old system," Domenicali told reporters. "Although the traffic light
system gave us an important performance gain, in this phase it’s better
to bring home an important psychological aspect for all of those that
work around the car in those very tense moments.”

”The spirit with which we tackle the final three races, particularly
the one in Japan, is one of a team that knows it has to fight to win
and also knows that in order to win, a great performance is needed. So,
this is the spirit of those that are concentrated on obtaining this
result.”

”In May, when we were ahead in the constructors title by an important
margin, I said that the championship is very long and that the fight
with our competitors would go right till the end. I’m convinced that in
the coming three races we have all the ingredients to win, to score 1-2
results. We know it’s not easy, but we can do it,” stated Domenicali.

Ferrari failed to score any points in the Singapore race and lost
the lead in the constructors’ championship to McLaren with just three
races to go.

https://i0.wp.com/i11.photobucket.com/albums/a188/SaimaAzam/Misc/krsevenstarsmall3.png We need tranquility alright! The race in Singapore was a ‘night’mare. Hopefully the boys have calmed down quickly (except Montezemolo) and are fully focused on giving the best performance to help Kimi and Massa be in the best positions to take the championships. Anything less and we’ll just have to watch the firework display diminish in the rain. This has been Stefano Domenicali’s first year acting as team principle for Ferrari, so the pressure on him is just as great as it has been on Kimi, eventhough this is the champion’s second season with the team. We all know what Kimi is capable of, it’s just that this year the strategy unfortunately didn’t go to plan. Infact it went waaaaaaaay off track and got lost at one point (between the Silverstone-Hungary period). Therefore, it’s been extremely difficult for Kimi and his team pick up the pieces. And when Kimi did everything he ever could at Spa, he was almost victorious. We can’t say he never tried, or didn’t do enough. He gave it his all this year, but something or the other got in the way, even those little 3-eye pit stop lights. Japan is a tough circuit, so eventhough we fans may have given up for them, Ferrari and Kimi won’t. Let’s support them as much as we can. Keep Flying!

Finaaaallyyyyy!!! Phew, let´s hope everything goes well in Japan, I´m looking forward to an exciting race. On a side note, did your read Peter White´s column? I bet you did; he mentioned that what happened  with Hamster in Singapore´s qualy was very unusual (almost missing out on Q3) and he also mentioned that he´ll have to use the same engine for Japan…….so I´m really hoping for his engine to give up, but then maybe they´ll use their engine joker…..:p

About time.  Just exactly what "important performance gain" did those stupid lights give them?  Whatever it was they seemed to lose most of it elsewhere.  What use is it if you save 1/10th of a second in a pit stop if you lose many more out on track because your strategy isn’t right or whatever? Sol, you know I was so disappointed with Webber not pulling off that final time in Q2 and knocking the Hamster out in Singapore.  Looking forward, it will be interesting to see, but I am sure that McLaren will pull out all stops to keep him in the running well for the next race/s, no matter what that means, an engine "joker" might just be on the cards. No problem, we will keep flying for Kimi…we know he will fly for us. .
