The Finnish news site report that all Kimi could think about and pay more attention to rather than his success after winning the Spanish GP yesterday was the moments of horror that Heikki left all of us in during his high speed crash. Typical to him, Kimi forgot to talk about his own perfect result after the
team meeting and spoke much more about the accident and worry for his
friend Heikki Kovalainen.

Also in Germany, one local newspaper reported today that Kimi did not celebrate his victory, and what was more important for him was "How is Heikki?" and later on Kimi said: "It was a good day and I`m happy Heikki
is ok!"

According to Turun Sanomat, before the impact of the crash Kovalainen reacted by
instinct and pulled his legs towards him and had let go of the steering
wheel when he saw that he could not do anything to stop the crash.
Also, the marshals were agitated as they saw Heikki’s helmet being red
– which turned out to be paint from the tyrewall.

When asked about Heikki’s accident during the press conference:

Kimi – "First of all, we didn’t know which McLaren it was. I
asked the team and they said it was Heikki. It probably looked worse
than it was in the end. Luckily he seems to be OK, so that’s the main
thing.

"I am happy that Heikki seems to be okay after his accident."

Bless, Kimi is quite close to Heikki, you’ll always see them chatting. Heikki’s crash was really a stomach wrenching one to see, and McLaren explain that Heikki having no serious injuries were partly because of the tyre barrier, rather than a wall. They also feel debris caused the accident but are adamant Heikki can race in Turkey, two weeks away from now.

Rally your support for Heikki by sending your greetings on MTV3’s website. The form should be filled as following with: Title, Greetings, Location, and then click ‘Lähetä terveiset’! Easy.

Spanish GP Stats – some milestones reached for Kimi!

276.jpg image by _KRS_Kimi Raikkonen gained his second
hat-trick
(pole, win and fastest lap) of his F1 career after last
year’s Australian Grand Prix, equalling the score of his teammate
Felipe Massa, who recorded his two hat-tricks last year, in Bahrain and
Spain. At the top of the all-time chart, with the most number of hat-tricks, is Michael Schumacher, with 22.

Kimi is set to possibly be the most successful Finnish F1 driver in history. With his 51st podium finish, Raikkonen equals his countryman Mika
Hakkinen at the ninth all-time spot. Next stop is Niki Lauda, with 54
podiums.

Kimi’s total number of fastest laps reached 26 – he has set more fastest laps than any other driver except Michael Schumacher with 76, Alain Prost with 41, Nigel Mansell with 30 and Jim Clark with 28.

Kimi recorded his 15th pole position, and he is
now in the 16th spot on the all-time records. Raikkonen didn’t start
from pole since Belgium last year.

Kimi is 9th in the highest championship points ranking, having passed Nigel Mansell:

So, do you think Kimi will continue racing to try and become the most successful Finnish driver? Well, he’ll probably do that this year quite comfortably I think. After a 1st/2nd/1st result in the last three races, the Raikko is on a roll. He’s flying! I hope I get to wave my flag for him atleast one time at a race this year. I made sure I went to the British GP last year mainly because missing Kimi in a Ferrari wasn’t a choice. And he won that race. Watch this video I made before he joined Ferrari, regarding his success with McLaren. After 5 years, he never won a championship with them but at Ferrari, he’s on course to winning his second straight consecutive title. That’s Formula One for you. And no wonder Kimi has fallen in love with the sport again.

Aww! Of course Kimi was worried sick for Heikki, they´re friends and fellow countrymen, so again Kimi shows us what a great sportsman he is, by not caring about his own win and celebration, but instead worrying for his friend. Remember people, there´s much more than "ice" under the Iceman! And I do believe he´s on his way to becoming the most successful Finnish driver, and even if he does not achieve that(hard to believe), he will continue to display his tremendous talent, for more years to come hopefully; and again it´s amazing to see how much he´s enjoying racing these days, very different from his days with McLaren. And Saima, hope you got a little bit of sleep yesterday!
