Massa’s Fightback & Kimi’s Supremacy

Okay,
what’s the deal? Felipe Massa’s dominant performance at Bahrain seems
to have caused discontention and doubts in the hearts of Kimi fans. But
there needn’t be, as what we saw at Bahrain was simply the great nature
of F1 drivers. So here’s my little take on the truth and some
consolation, if any, to you fans.

Felipe drove beautifully all weekend (apart from
that very slight mistake on his qualifying lap, but I’m sure even he didn’t expect BMW to pounce for pole like that), and he would drive so effortlessly as he’s just so
comfortable on the Sahkir track. He finds a special groove on 3 tracks in particular –
Sahkir, Istanbul, and Brazil. He can beat Kimi on these occasions, and it’s okay, it’s nothing to
be ashamed of and you’ll see why (if you haven’t already!).

This is the cold, striking beauty of the Iceman – when he is so comfortable and confident where he can risk to bend the laws of science, no one
can reach him even if they were just as comfortable in their own cars.
He was one

with the McLaren MP4/20 in 2005 –  personally that was the best Kimi I’ve ever
seen, simply because that
img518/4607/166ef9.jpg car was his own world (so I completely relate
to those feeling we haven’t seen that Kimi for a long time).
Unfortunatly that car and the rest betrayed him in the end with poor reliability and Kimi couldn’t continue with such frustration.
Thus, he went to Ferrari trying to mould his mind around a different car.
He just about had done enough for winning the title last year, but that was
only half of the season of which Kimi was comfortable. We must remember that.

This year he’s come back as world champion, but he’s still trying to master
the use of Bridgestone tyres and the balance on some tracks like Bahrain. Even when he was driving at McLaren,
Bahrain wasn’t one of Kimi’s best tracks, this is worth remembering too. He said
after becoming world champion in Brazil that everything else will be only an extra merit –
however I’m not so sure he really thinks so now. Of course, with him being so happy you can’t
imagine, anything can be a plus after that.

Massa taking his second dignified win at the desert track makes him the desert rose and only his thorn can make Kimi appreciate he has a worthy teammate. For Kimi to succeed at overpowering his car, he needs a fight from Felipe and this can only be a positive.

Getting out of the Ferraris’ in parc ferme with Felipe celebrating his comeback victory, Kimi knew Felipe worked hard and fair for it and congratulated him as a brother. As a teammate, it’s not exactly the most pleasant feeling, being beaten all weekend but as a driver and most importantly a world champion, Kimi knows and sympathises with the pure satisfaction of finally making it work right. For Felipe, this was a great victory. But I saw Kimi’s face during the Bahrain podium and I could swear he was thinking – "…There’s a lot more of
unfinished business than I thought…" and this year he’s going try
again and hopefully, undoubtedly, he will succeed as he did last year. Keep flying Kimi – these fans just keep wanting more, more and more!

Amen Saima! You couldn´t have explained Kimi´s mood in a more accurate and beautiful way.We can all agree that this circuit doesn´t suit him, he has said so many times, but I think eventually he will master it, as he always does.As for his reaction towards Felipe, I agree that it must be tough being beaten by your temmate, but still he was happy for Felipe because he, more than anyone else understands what it´s like to begin a season as roughly as Felipe did, it must be so morally depressing. But above all, I think the most important thing is that Kimi is LEADING THE CHAMPIONSHIP, what can  be more important than that????!!!!On a side note- We are given proof once again, that dear little Hamilton doesn´t know how to drive unless he is at the top front, P1 or P2. Drivers like Alonso (in a good car), Kimi, Felipe, Kubica or anyone else out there know how to build up a race from an unfavourable position, which is not Hamilton´s case, as soon as things get difficult, he starts pushing the wrong buttons, crashes anyone near him, and overall looses his cool. Enough said!BEAUTIFUL DESKTOPS!

Well said, Saima. I think your glasses are a little pink tinged but your comments are good.
Don’t write Hami off for one bad race. And consider the McL response. No cries of foul such as Fearrari would make.
Perhaps this too added to Hami’s anger. He and Kimi are the class of the field. Others come close and will mix it occasionally. I’m sure Kubi regretted letting Kimi pass him, he never dropped away and was clearly a match for Kimi’s pace as demonstrated (as Kimi chose to drive). Perhaps Kimi felt if he caught and passed Massa there would be shouts of Race Fixing so he settled, ahead of the rest but following Massa. Not his game but this is championship business, not a scrap in a park. He is clearly at his best this year and yet still has weak points. What a superb year this promises to be.

Thanks for the comment Sol123!@OldeWalde: Hiya. Hehe, yeah I’m a Kimi fan obviously but I always try to keep my race thoughts balanced. You’re right about the championship business, however Lewis tends to panic a bit like Massa especially during the start of the races – just like in Brazil last year Lewis messed up his start and it got worse and worse because he wasn’t concentrating properly. It’ll be tough to get back infront of Kimi in the championship now.

Intresting point: Kimi’s championship lead is now 3 points, more than it ever was during last season, and to be honest, I’m not sure even if he has led the championship by so much, when he was at McLaren either? I recall that in 05 he chased Alonso the whole year, and how was it in 03 with Michael, no memories… So, it’s looking pretty good for now, to be honest. He’s always been the chaser, now it’s the otherway round, and I like it.

Yep, he’s a leader now 🙂 He plays maturally, so I don’t worry.
