Kimi Räikkönen’s return to Formula One has been due to having a more convenient car than a couple of years ago for the return of Michael Schumacher.

Peter Sauber reveals that McLaren had paid the Sauber team during the 2001 season in compensation for signing on Kimi Räikkönen.

Raikkonen started his F1 career at Sauber in 2001, but the talented Finnish driver left Sauber as soon as an offer from McLaren arose.

Räikkönen’s skills impressed the British team and they were willing to pay for the transfer of high compensation, but the accurate amount Sauber still refuses to reveal.

“The apprentice was really exceptional. McLaren were totally impressed by Kimi – and the very subject. Mika Häkkinen was about to leave, so they were in dire circumstances. That is why I got them from a decent price, but please do not ask me how high the amount was!” told Sauber in an interview.
