Exclusive Interview: Kimi speaks on leaving F1 and entering Rally…

https://i0.wp.com/img27.imageshack.us/img27/5543/evenstarsays.png This feature is from the latest Autosport magazine, and it brings what we fans have been longing for in the past few months – Kimi’s thoughts. It is an absolute must-read, some of Kimi’s comments are priceless and very important. Enjoy the read (courtesy of YiNing from our forum).

"Rallying is very relaxed – there’s much, much less politics and bullshit than F1". Sounds like Formula 1 defector Kimi Raikkonen is going to enjoy life in the WRC. Adam Cooper digs a bit deeper…

Kimi Raikkonen has never cared much for the baggage that comes with being a Grand Prix driver: the interviews, the press conferences and the various public relations commitments.

During five years at McLaren and another three at Ferrari he walked a tightrope of political correctness, preferring not to say very much at all rather than trot out soundbites that might come back to haunt him. To some extent, he’s been able to hide under the public ‘Iceman’ persona, and that’s suited him just fine. Get to know him socially, and a very different Kimi emerges. Off-duty with his friends – and that group includes quite a few fellow grand prix drivers – he’s a gregarious and convivial character, someone who has plenty to say.

Now he is embarking on a new chapter in his career, and creating a bit of history as he does so. By walking away from F1 to run a (nearly) full schedule in the 2010 World Rally Championship, he is taking a path that has never been trodden before…

The following pages are from F1 Racing magazine, also courtesy of YiNing. Entitled ‘Cracking the Kimi Enigma’, when it could’ve been simply called ‘Criticising the Kimi mould’, it’s
not a very good piece to read. But there are some quotes from Kimi,
like how he "couldn’t breathe" in the paddock and how the place felt
like it was "strangling" him. These are things which need to be read… I’ll let you decide for yourselves. The fourth page is another opinion piece debating whether Kimi still deserves a seat in F1, where Red Bull boss Christian Horner argues yes for Kimi and Damon Hill against. Well, it’s good to know there’s at least one team boss in favour Kimi and whom he hasn’t worked with… yet!

No wonder Kimi left F1! Who do they think they are? They are forever analysing every move of him. They think they know what makes him tick. They think they have the right to evaluate him and to find him lacking, just because he doesn’t fit their mould. His character "flaws" are forever emphasised. But look who’s talking!!! There must be some jealousy involved too: he has the audacity to walk away from what they believe is the ultimate place to be – their utopia. Oh, it makes me sick!! I am also sad to see him leave F1, but boy I applaud his guts. Unlike the views expressed in the second article, Kimi could have stayed if he wanted to… He think he will be happier in rallying and he will have more of a life (I hope). I just wish they’d give him time and space to adjust. They will however watch him closely, probably hoping he will fail! Oh, Kimi, all I expect of you is to be a normal, happy guy living your life without having constantly to watch your back. You are allowed to make choices like everyone else. The only difference being that yours are analysed to a point of destruction! Oh well, I’ll just try to be like you and laugh them off. Keep flying, Kimi!

More & more I read, more & more I understand why Kimi choosed Rally not F1 in 2011. The F1, F1 supporters & those don’t like , don’t know him etc. are really bullshit & not worth to bother at all. I have learned a lot from Kimi such as how to ignore bullshit, live more happier & take it easy under difficult situation etc.I do believe that he will not return to F1 in 2011 if he do well (I wont aspect him to win, on podium, or even finish the championship at top 5 in the 1st year as Rally is much more complicated than F1). Whatever it is, he is the greatest driver & coolest sportman I ever seen. Proud of him!

I went out and bought autosport yesterday because there was a tweet on wednesday from one of editors saying there was a fascinating article/interview with Kimi in it. This is the first time I’ve read the F1 racing article and the autosport article contradicts it quite a lot doesn’t it? Particularly the end about why he didn’t go to Macca. AND he didn’t get a standing ovation because he and the rest of the paddock didn’t know it was going to be his last race in Abu Dhabi, it was still assumed he would go to McLaren (that part really annoyed me)

yes, I’ve read something about in internet and I can see that Kimi confirms his first interviews after ferrari’s breaking of the contract.he speaks very well about what’s the aim of many teams now, and it’s always money.he likes races and he doesn’t hide his clear ideas about santander and ferrari. only a porblem of money, nothing technical, nothing about him.in italy we have a lot of interviews to domenicali in which the ferarri’s manager says that Kimi was not exactly what they wants in ferrari and he’s not right for the team aim because of his character.but the truth is not there.the problem is that here in italy most of people don’t read autosport so live in a couple of bad lies and nothing more.

The Autosport article is really good. Kimi is going where he thinks he’ll have more fun, and I believe WRC is certainly going to be more exciting than this year’s F1 season 🙂
