In this scan of the latest F1Racing magazine issue, Kimi’s first F1 team boss recalls on how he crossed paths with the young Finn and what went through his mind. Here is ‘The Day I Met Kimi Räikkönen’ by Peter Sauber:

This is an interesting article to read from the man who gave Kimi the very spontaneous chance into F1. With less than 40% of what an F1 test driver should require to enter F1 on paper, it was Kimi’s raw talent and speed and the ‘eye’ he gave to what he loved which succeeded. A must read for all Kimi and young F1 followers.
It was the day after September 11th in 2000 (also my birthday) when Kimi was given the opportunity of his life, a Formula One test drive. Althought he was just 0.7 tenths off Michael Schumacher in their first test together, Kimi’s overall times weren’t blindingly fast. And despite that, after his debut F1 year with Sauber, Kimi was annouced as a McLaren driver on September 14th 2001.
