2007 European GP – Practise Sessions

Kimi Raikkonen dominated the final free practice session before qualifying for the European Grand Prix at the Nurburgring today.

The Ferrari driver was the first of the leading contenders to take
to the track and held the top spot for the majority of the hour.

With 20 minutes remaining, Fernando Alonso produced a 1:32.039 lap
in his McLaren to beat Raikkonen by 0.065 seconds, but this was swiftly
beaten when the field switched to soft tyres for the final scramble in
the last five minutes.

Again Raikkonen was the first of the top four drivers to set a time
on softs, and immediately retook first place by 0.643 seconds, lapping
in 1:31.396.

Kimi Raikkonen – 1st: "I am reasonably happy with today. We have proved we are competitive in pure terms on this circuit and we will have to wait for tomorrow to understand exactly where we are compared to our main rivals.

"I think there is still room for improvement in terms of the handling of the car which is nevertheless good on both types of tyre we have here. The weather, especially the wind, made the second session a bit complicated but this problem was the same for everyone."
