The Chinese Grand Prix 2005

The Finale! The End!
Or the beginning of the dominion of Mclaren!

Eighteen races, eighteen weekends, which have probably summed up this year for me. Its been long, sweaty, tiring, frustrating…( well not really, but for the teams, yes!) and we head to China in battle for the Constructors Title.

The FIA may have produced an exciting season after all, but still, its unfair in some area’s of the sport, especially on pre race decisions. I have an opinion, surely matched with Mclaren’s, so thats all that matters to me.

Practise sessions have shown consistant competitions between the Mclaren and Renaults. Ferrari are up to something new too, worth mentioning of. Lets see if it will interfere with the battle. Renault enter China with another engine update, and after Brazil, they probably have been worried, since their new engine upgrade there wasnt much help. Mclaren beat them with a 1-2, a gap of 16/17 seconds from Alonso. Better than nothing I suppose. But not yet good enough to beat them 😉 Lots of tricky conditions on the track, little bits and pieces of trouble here and there, but so far so good. Hopefully, Mercedes can give Mclaren something in return, some help perhaps,  for the Constructors.

Let the racing begin, and the victorious prevail!

Whats the photo about? I have no idea. Anyways…:)

We can tell already, the qualifying positions of Mclaren and Renault tell there own little story. Their strategies are very very obvious. I think, Renault, having the new engine update, are taking full benefit of going lightely on fuel. They aim to be the fastest car on the track tomorrow. The Mclarens however are aiming to win. They dont have to go flat out to get pole, they dont have to get the most out of the Mercedes engine just for qualifying. I smell a very exciting race tomorrow.

And Ferrari! Not doing so bad, eventhough Michael went wide in the same turn he spun off in last year. Jenson Button in the Honda in amongst the battle upfront, though i doubt he will be a problem.

If we think about it, Renault and Alonso got pole in Brazil. With their engine update and so on, Mclaren still beat them on the track with a 1-2 finish. Its a very interesting contrast, that seeing Alonso’s time in qualifying today had amazing speed, 4 kph more faster on the straight than anyone else. But is it really enough to beat Mclaren? Mclaren being so conservative with their speed in qualifying almost makes them overlooked, when actually, they are the fastest cars out there. And its great to see them make the most of not only their speed, but their heads.

It will be the fight of the strategies tomorrow, and we all know Mclaren whup ass in strategic wars 😉

Come on Mclaren Mercedes, show them who’s boss!

Keep it up Juan and Kimi, its within your grasps…

Sunday Race day

Sleeping throughout the night was a pain in my gut. I dont know whether it was anxiety, stress, anticipation, fear. Gosh, maybe it was all of them together. Couldnt sleep at all. And i wish i didnt wake up for the race to be honest…

It was a very boring race. Apart for a few crashes and incidents. I dont see why some F1 fans get all horny over a crash or something else that certainly disrupts what could have been a better race. The safety car being deployed twice, what a waste of time. I honestly feel the interference of the safety car, hampered Mclarens chances, if any. Like i said yesterday, it should have been the battle of strategy.

The first safety car was deployed around lap 19, due to a drainage cover becoming loose at the exit of turn 10. Alonso, Fisichella, Kimi went past without any contact with it, no harm. However someone had to be whacked and pierced with it. And it was Juan Pablo Montoya everyone!

He came into the pit lane as the safety car was out, and Team Mclaren seemed to be hussling around with the tyre that ran over it. Juan got away fine and continued on the track. Everyone else began to enter the pits, which was really, the only excitement of the race so far. However, things still didnt look so good for Juan. The debris had punched a hole through the floor of the McLaren and holed its radiator. This resulted into the engine expiring, losing fuel, and drying out. The sister Mclaren of Kimi’s had died.

Everything was going lovely for Renault on the other hand. Since the start of the race, the Mclarens (known to be heavier fuelled) hadnt seemed to be improving with pace. Alonso flew away, built a huge gap, with Fisichella deliberatly holding the Mclarens off. Which came to show in the pits. Fisichella had 5 car lengths infront of him entering the pits, with Kimi and a ferrari following behind. He held them up. Which resulted into car number 6 being investigated and he received a drive through penalty towards the end of the race.

By then, Juan being out of the race, and Kimi settled in 2nd place, Fisi was called into the pits. So Ralf Schumacher took the last step on the podium for third place. Atleast the penalty was given, i was hoping something would happen to Alonso instead. Kimi could win the race with Fisichella 3rd, and the title would have been ours.

What would have been….is always the case. Juan Pablo has had tremendous bad luck this year. Sometimes i wonder if Mclaren are really cursed. But the hope in me, and many other fans, is always burning. The same for the team. They were so close this year.

Renault having 8 wins, Mclaren having 10, Renault having 4 fastest laps compared to Mclarens 10. Gosh, just cant imagine how happy i would have been if those results actually meant something today. Kimi was absolutly fine.

No expression of loss, he knew it was already lost weeks and weeks ago, and during the race….he couldnt do anything. Complete contrast again with last sundays race. So i take him as my consolation 🙂

But ofcourse, Renault have deserved what they have got (not in my eyes). Winning the constructors, with one of their drivers, being told to hold up the others, and receiving a penalty, is NOT exactly right is it?

Atleast Team Mclaren Mercedes and I can leave this season, knowing just what earns a title. Life’s unfair. We have had probably the best season ever, since i started watching F1 ofcourse. That was 4 years ago. I couldnt be more proud of Kimi, he is certainly the true hero of the season for me. He hasnt had to force anything of his team mate. He hasnt had to take wins off others unfairly. But then again, Alonso didnt "mean" to. I just dont like his attitude. Flavio is enough to puke seeing the sight of. Lol.

Farewell to the 2005 season. A mixture of good and bad memories. Its been tough. I wish the Team and Kimi and Juan to have a very nice break, and hopefully, look after one another from shoulder injuries and boozing.

Get down to business Boys, the Macca’s will be BACK.
