Ferrari Team Quotes Kimi Raikkonen: “I am happy to have made it to the
podium once again, even if this time I needed a heavy dose of luck.
It’s a nice result, for the championship, for us and for our fans here
at Monza. I got a great start and I almost managed to also get past
Hamilton, but even if I’d managed it, the result would have been the
same in the end. I’m disappointed I couldn’t fight for the win, but we
did not have enough speed. All in all, the strategy we chose prior to
the race was the best one for us. In my battle with Sutil, I was never
really in difficulty: I knew I only had to avoid making any mistakes
and drive in such a way as to get the best out of the car. The tyres?
The softer ones suited us better, as we struggled a bit on the harder
ones, especially at the start of the stint. In the upcoming races, we
will try and do our best: maybe in some of them we could even try and
fight for the win.”

Stefano Domenicali: “A podium again, the fifth in a
row, this time courtesy of a hefty dose of luck, which maybe hasn’t
always been with us at other times. Once again, in this second half of
the season, Kimi drove a fantastic race – in fact I’d say he was
fantastic all weekend. He did not make any mistakes, giving his all
and, along with the team, was able to get the best out of the car…"

Chris Dyer: “We were expecting a bit more in terms of
performance, but we are pleased with yet another podium finish from
Raikkonen, even if it owed something to luck. Kimi again drove an
impeccable race, as he has always done in this part of the season…”

Post-race press conference :

Q. Kimi, it was a bit of a repeat for you of the Belgian Grand
Prix in many ways with the Force India in your mirrors just about
throughout the whole race.

Kimi RAIKKONEN: I got a very good start but them something
happened with Lewis. He slowed down but I had nowhere to go and I had
to go around the left half on the grass, but I needed to back off
before then. If I had had some space to go around him I would have got
him at the start. Anyhow, it didn’t really change the end of the race.
In the end he went off. We got third place a little bit on a gift but
it doesn’t matter. It all counts. Good points for us. It is a bit
disappointing to drive as well as you can every lap, not really making
any mistakes, and still finish quite far away from the first two. It is
not the perfect position for me or for the team, but at least we scored
some points which we needed. I think we got the most out of the car
this weekend. It is good for the fans to be on the podium. It is much
better than finishing fourth. We are going to keep pushing as hard as
we can. We know that there are cars quicker than us, but maybe some
races we can still challenge them for the win and that is what we try
to do. It was a great thing for the team and everything worked well for
us and the guys put in good hard work.

Q. It looked like a small glitch at the second pit stop and you
just caught the leg of the refuelling guy. Then you had to brake before
you left the pit lane.

KR: I was in a hurry to get out as I knew it was going to be
very close. The lollipop guy just moved a little bit and I was ready to
go and he put it back down and I stopped. But luckily enough the fuel
rig was out and I could go. We lost a little bit of time but not too
much. It would not have been enough anyhow for beating McLaren at the
pit stops, but we could keep the Force India behind and in the end it
did not make much difference.

Q. Kimi, how much pressure was Adrian (Sutil) putting on you, or
were you just able to push the button and get yourself a safety margin?

KR: I think it was very similar to the last race with
(Giancarlo) Fisichella. OK, sometimes it looks as if it gets very close
in the middle of a chicane, but then once you get to the corner exit
and you start accelerating and he’s still in the chicane it opens up
again, so it never really got very close, so that I would need to
defend or anything like that. They seem to be fast in a straight line,
fast through the corners, so for sure I needed to make sure that I
didn’t make a mistake and I got a good run in the few places on the
circuit where I knew that his only chance was going to be. So as long
as I didn’t make a mistake in those two places it was OK.

Q. Do you regret the strategy that you chose, the two-stop?

KR: No. I think we still did the right thing. We got the best
out of the car. We know that we’re where the top cars are, we’re not as
fast. The car feels more or less OK, we’re just missing grip, we’re
sliding more than the others and that’s the penalty that we have to
pay. We’re not going to have any more new parts for the car, so it is
what it is right now. Third place for us is very good, we’re still
keeping position in the championship which is what we’re aiming for. I
think we got the maximum out of the car.

Q. Much difference between the tyres?

KR: I think the soft one was easier for us. It is normally.
It’s hard to get the hard one working. Probably we don’t have as much
downforce as the others, so you cannot put load on the tyres, you
cannot get them working. In the end they started to work a little bit
better again and it helped but for sure, the soft one is the better one.

Q. Will Singapore suit you better?

KR: It should be a bit more than Valencia, Monaco. Hopefully
there we will have a bit more of a chance to challenge for first place
but I don’t know. We will wait and see. Hopefully we can be stronger
there.

Q. (Heikki Kulta –Turun Sanomat) Kimi, you have had four successive podiums. Are you surprised by this consistent record?

KR: A little bit, yes. But we’ve been chasing the car a bit
since the last five races and it’s been working well for us, we’ve been
getting the best out of it and other people have got the most out of
their cars and their package, so it has worked out very well for us.
It’s a big surprise to finish on the podium, but OK, here we were a bit
lucky to finish on the podium. No matter how it comes you need to
finish the race, so we will try again in the next races and try to keep
third place in the Constructors’ Championship.

Kimi drove an amazing race 🙂 That Ferrari surely wasn’t fast enough and Sutil would’ve past him (KERS or no KERS) but Kimi kept his focus on the right place and no mistake!

I’ve never been so happy to see Hamilton crash! Great podium for Kimi. Did you see he threw his cap into the crowd! They keep going on about Red Bull catching Brawn but if I were them I’d be worried about Kimi, he’s only 11.5 points behind Webber now.

Another great race from Kimi! Very happy that he’s at the podium, although thank you to Hammy, LOL! Agreed Saima, it happens when the drivers are pushing too hard. The moment I saw him crashing, I told myself, "now you’ll understand how Kimi felt when the same crash happened at Spa 2008". Hi ! Hi! Hi!Though, just 3rd place, Kimi looks very happy, in fact much happier compared to the previous 3rd places that he’s won this year!!! He must be proud to deliver a podium finish to all the Tifosi.Kimi just knows how to fight back although Sutil kept on attacking him, the results taste better when F60 pace is not comparable to Brawn, McLaren or Force India.Keep Flying Kimi and we sure hope there’ll be more podiums to come!!!!

Hoping for more podium finish for the rest of the season! GO KIMI GO!=DHoping for more podium finishes after this

You guys have to read the true Tifosi – look at their comments posted here (google translation)http://translate.google.com/translate?prev=hp&hl=en&js=y&u=http%3A%2F%2Fgrandprix.sportmediaset.it%2Fwpmu%2F2009%2F09%2F13%2Frubinho-pensaci-tu%2F&sl=it&tl=en&history_state0=Especially this comment: "If KR did the same mistake LH did today, now there would be an article critizing him. People (journalists) refer to him as a finished driver hanging around the circiut, but nobody talks about his aggressive start with 2 tyres on the grass attempting to overtake. If Massa did something like that now we would be speaking of him as a great fighter. Come on! We’re 300 tifosi writing in favour of Kimi, but according to Terruzzi (the journalist) we don’t represent ferrari people. I don’t tkink only matteo82 and we "indefatigable raikkonians" heard all cheers for him at the podium. There were other people, many people (cheering at Kimi in Monza), representing ferrari people. But you (the journalists) try not to notice this fact.AND DOES DOMENICALI KNOWS THE NAME OF THE DRIVER DRIVING FERRARI NUMBER 4? BECAUSE I’VE NEVER HEARD DOMENICALI NAME HIM…"So, I’m happy there is a lot of support for Kimi from the Tifosi, even if we don’t see it on the newspapers or tv.

Hello everyone! Just so you know, I am also in the official Ferrari forum and most of the community there are against Alonso. Most of them are calling for Ferrari to retain Kimi so there really are a lot of diehard tifosi who are for Kimi. Some of the posts are in Italian (which i cannot understand) but a lot are also in English, and even some which are in Spanish (which I CAN understand!). So, even the Spanish Ferrari fans are not for Alonso but for Kimi! All of us over there are hoping that Ferrari listen to us, so if you want to join in, please sign up for the forum on the Ferrari official site.

It’s good to see Kimi on the podium yet again, but you can tell during the post race conference that he would’ve preferred to score 3rd place on the merit of overall car performance rather than Lewis’ crash gift. Nevertheless, you accept what you’re given. Lately at every post race interview, Kimi reminds us that Ferrari’s not introducing any more new parts, instead, concentrating all efforts on next year’s car. To me, Kimi is subtly alluding to the fact that it’s his skills and hard work that gets the Ferrari where they have been for the last handful of races, while at the same time venting his frustrations at the underperforming Ferrari. To be honest, I don’t care if Kimi leaves Ferrari – he should take his talent where it’s wanted, BUT I DO WANT TO SEE KIMI racing in F1 next year! He’s the brightest star on track and he’s the only reason I attend races! If anyone has his Manager’s contact details, let me know as I want to petition him to ensure Kimi gets a drive next year ! Thanks for the post, Saima & kracer – its reassuring to know Kimi is still well supported & loved all over the world.

Wow, it is surprising (but heartwarming!) to read that the Tifosi support Kimi. 🙂 I spoke to an Italian before and asked him why the Italians don’t like Kimi- he said it’s because Kimi is boring. No personality, apparently. So it’s really nice to find out that the Tifosi do like Kimi too!

Hi to all,Personally i don’t care about the tifosi’s opinion about kimi .Kimi has many -many fans all around the world including my little homeland Cyprus…Ferrari people and most of the tifosi’s are not in a position to judge kimi when they weren’t able to provide him with a fast and competitive car…they should know better that.kimi is the one to do all the hard work and kimi is who brings the positive results, struggling for the very best in each race…and if ferrari’s decision is negative to keep kimi in the team,we will follow him wherever he will go…kimi remains a passionate driver and an honest man since the very beginning of his carreer and that’s the reason we all love him and support him! Through the goods and the bads KEEP FLYING KIMI!!!!!!!!!!!

Well who cares about the Tifosi if some of them like him that’s good, but truth is they will always live haunted with Schumi’s ghost and will be constantly searching 4 the next Scumacher that’s why they never liked Kimi and they think Alonso can fill that empty space but they’re so wrong.Absolutly agree with u liamitsa i too want to see Kimi in Macca next year…Kimi should take his talent and go where he will be respected, where he was treated as a King….Mclaren Mercedes of course, he shouldn’t have left there.Ferrari don’t deserve him all they care about is Felipe Baby they have no respect 4 Kimi…Domenicali over the past few races has managed in every possible way to disrespect Kimi and us Raikkos with his comments, that man has no manners :PBottom line Kimi shouldn’t stay in Ferrari even if they decide to keep him he should take the 50million$ and run back to Macca lolllllKeep Flying Kimi!!!!!!!!!

a bit of luck sometimes it’s very important and Kimi knows it perfectly. after a race with 4 mercedes engine in 5 standings, he had to fight and look at sutil pressure and hamilton in front so it wasn’t easy! I was in Monza and I’ve live it live, tremendous!Kimi has a great personality and character, I totally trust in him, but I was surrounded by thousends of ferrari’s tifosi talking so bad about him!but this f60 is not a good car, and see, only Kimi can let the car go in the best way possible! no one can do it.see fisichella, loved by people in italy but……what have he done?? nothing!well, I was really worried because I was frightened about the ferrari’s position and way of work in pressure. I could have bet that maranello’s staff had just chosen the winner.but it was not so!GO KIMI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don’t want Kimi to leave Ferrari simply because I don’t want it to go down in history that he got fired by Ferrari. He doesn’t deserve that!Let him finish his contract and then leave if he wants to.What do you think?

    Like

  31. Unknown's avatar

@kracer: Hi. Kimi doesn’t deserve to be fired, that’s the thing. You’re right. He always has respected his contracts and he never says a bad word against his team, neither at Sauber, McLaren or Ferrari. He is very professional. I don’t want him to leave Ferrari prematurely. He can go and join another team, if he wishes to. I’ll follow him.Ferrari are too confusing to the media, because their management has sucked big time, since Todt left. There’s too many rumours and opinion surrounding what will happen so I choose to ignore it and just wait. I won’t go around proclaiming what is happening. I have no idea! Unfortunately, the fans are always the last to know…

Well Done Kimi. I had my exams on Monday, but I could n`t keep myself away from F1 on Sunday. Kimi did everything which was in his hand. Good Job and great Luck at Singapore. :)Now, coming to these comments from SD and Ferrari Chief. Really I can`t understand what they mean everytime. Why can`t they Say "Kimi will drive for Ferrari in 2010. End Of Story!". He deserves better than this i believe.

They can all say what they like – Kimi is savvy enough take care of himself & won’t be short of offers if he’s really leaving Ferrari. Wherever he drives next year, I’ll support him too.Meanwhile, I’ll look forward to seeing him next week in Sg!!! Hopefully no rain next weekend – weather’s a bit off at the moment.

I totally agree with you, Evenstar. I am sick of all the speculations and, until I hear the official announcement, I will assume that they are respecting Kimi’s contract. Honestly, I think Ferrari are waiting on whether Massa can really drive and then make a decision. Also, I think they must be thinking twice about whether to get Alonso with the ongoing Renault scandal.I know Kimi will have no problems getting another drive, plus he will be getting a lot of money if he leaves Ferrari. But then again, I don’t think it has ever been about the money with Kimi, as long as he can go racing. With all the s—t happening in F1, Kimi is the only one who has not said anything bad about anyone or any team! I’m hoping Ferrari finally realize what a gem they have in Kimi. I think Todt saw that. Too bad he isn’t there anymore…
