Italian Kimi Interview Double-Dose

From Corriere.it| Translation: Google & Editing: Evenstar Saima |English: Autosport.com

Sakhir – First impressions on the Ferrari, the new regulations, the
desire to start over, thoughts on his future, but also the
election of President Obama, his mother, and the music of Guns ‘N’ Roses.
A month before the championship begins on March 29 at Australia, Kimi Raikkonen
talks.

At the test in Bahrain you were able to drive for the first time the F60 with slicks in the dry. How is it going?

KR: "Very well. It was a good first step, everything worked well. As for the
slicks, at the end I did not find many differences compared to when,
before Christmas, we tried on the old car. "

The new Ferrari is better suited to the tyres characteristics?
KR: "It is too early to tell. Certainly the feeling was good. "

Some drivers have raised the issue of rain: is the machine really impossible to control?
KR: "When I tried at Mugello, it was very cold and the track was really slippery. It will be easier at higher temperatures.

With the new rules do you think the races will be more exciting?

KR: "It will always be difficult, but we hope there is an
improvement. It may be that,
since it’s somewhat more difficult, it will increase the interest both of the
drivers and for the public. "

T
he drivers will have more difficulty?
KR: "We can’t tell yet."

Talk about the Kers (system recovery): does it make a real difference?

KR: "It helps significantly in the lap time, and of course its’ influence
depends on the circuit. If it works it’s a good thing to have in the
car. And for us, so far it has worked quite well. "

All these buttons will make Formula 1 more like a videogame?
KR: "No! Being good with video games is not the same as being in F1. "

You have understood what went wrong last year? There is something to learn?

KR: "You always learn from mistakes, but I’m not particularly interested in understanding last year: we
can’t change the way things went, and it doesn’t help us to do things
better now.
I am happy to talk about what we can do about this. "

You’re searching for a comeback?
KR: "No, I
try only to give the maximum. Everyone knows what we can do and our
goal is to win the championship.
There are many things that need to go well to achieve that, and I’m not
necessarily talking about luck. But I’m not thinking of that now:

I think good testing and to be as strong as possible in the first few races is important. "

In Finland, the media were writing that you decided to quit drinking alcohol.
KR: "It is my private life, I don’t think I need to talk about it."

Do you expect different rivals or think that the fight going to be between you, Massa and Hamilton again?

KR: "I have no idea how the other teams are working. Until now the lap
times were all very close, but during th
e tests using different tyres,
you try different things, then, it can be successful or not.
But I’m neither interested nor worried about the others. Let’s think about ourselves.
"

In 2010, your contract expires and you said that Ferrari will probably be your last team: does this mean that you’ll leave F1?

KR: "We will see in two years if I’m still enjoying or if I want to do
other things, but I’m confident that Ferrari will be my last team. But this
does not necessarily mean that I will stop in 2010… "

What would you do next? Rally?
KR: "I
have not planned anything. During the rally I enjoyed it very much, I have another
course in Finland on Saturday. It is one thing that I do as a fun hobby when I have nothing else to do. "

What do you think of the controversy
on the drivers’ superlicense? They complain about the increase of the fee, and Mosley says that
anyone who does not pay, they will not drive.

KR: "Everyone is more or
less happy to pay the license, it’s just that the price should be reasonable. I do
not understand why it is so much more expensive than any other
category. It should be equal for all and reasonable. This is the only
problem, nobody wants to quarrel with anyone. "

You’ve said that sooner or later you will have children?

KR: "In this moment we are not in the best of possible worlds. I am a
lucky man because I would be able to offer a good life for my child. "

What are your hopes for them?
KR: "That they are always healthy. Then they alone will decide their life. I will not force them to do anything, if they choose to race or do anything else. "

If your child were an American citizen, would he have voted for Obama?
KR: "Yes, I do not follow politics much but I think he’s a smart guy. "

Axl Roses, the leader of Guns N’Roses, has thanked you in his last album, Chinese Democracy. Why?

"I do not know, I ask him! But we know each other quite well, we’ve met several
times: the first time was years ago, at my invitation, then he comes to Finland
and we meet again.

Do you think you have a rock soul?
KR: "I’d say no. But I like his music. "

Favorite city?
KR: "Espoo".

Colour?
KR: "Black, red and white."

Food and beverage?
KR: "Pasta and fish. I do not have a favorite drink. "

Pet?
KR: "Dog. I have three."

Your parents and wife are afraid when you’re racing?
KR: "My mom yes, it is certainly the most worried of all."

It is favorable for women to be in Formula 1?
KR: "If you are brave enough, you are welcome.

What do you think of a GP in Rome?
KR: "We are an Italian team, so it would be nice. I was once in Rome before Christmas and is a wonderful city and I’d like to go back. "

After two years at Ferrari, have you understood a little ‘Italy’?

KR: "It works differently than a British or Swiss team, it is a cultural thing. I like the Italians: I find they are nice people and relaxed. "

Big thanks to Miezicat who pointed out this interview for us (although Autosport have just released their version of it) My favourite colours are also red, white, and black. I don’t like Tuna though! (Kimi’s favourite pasta dish is with Tuna fish) Kimi speaks very wisely about his future and, of course, about having a family. Not to mention the drivers’ superlicense protest! I do hope he continues racing after 2010, as he’s kinda left his answer on that open-ended! Below is another interview which was shown on Italian television yesterday; the video is available to download at Tania’s Space or you watch it here!

Far from the spotlights Kimi Raikkonen is
perhaps an interesting person, but he closes himself like an hedgehog,
when a microphone appears.

Q – "What is your best quality?"

A – "Don’t ask me. You have to ask someone else!"

Q – "What was your best race last year?"

A – "I won once or twice … I don’t even remember how many! However,
it’s not important. I have to say you that last year in some of my best
races I haven’t collected any results, so…

Q – "Why did you choose the name James Hunt?"

A – "I don’t know, it’s a long story, it was born to joke with my
friends. It would be complicated to tell you all briefly. It’s just a
game.”

Q – "2008 was not however a good season …"

A – "I’ve left it behind, I hope to do better this year."

Q – "Was there a worst moment?"

A – “It’s very difficult to choose one, a single moment. The whole season was not sure how I hoped it to be. "

Q – Hamilton or Massa, who is your most strong rival?"

A – "I don’t know who will be the fastest and it’s early to say which
team will be stronger between Ferrari and McLaren. And maybe even there
will be another team that will come out. We will see in the first
race."

Q – "Do you feel more focused than past years in winning the World Championship?"

A – “It’s always difficult to win the title, but it’s my only goal."

D – "Have you got a wish?”

A – “Not at all. We only need to give it all to reach the result, and sometimes it succeeds."

That’s Kimi.

https://i0.wp.com/img236.imageshack.us/img236/6773/krsevenstarsmall3aat2.pngThat’s Kimi – he doesn’t wish for anything. You just need to try your best in everything and that’s it. Note
Kimi’s comment in the second question: do you think he’s speaking about
Spa? That was one of his best races ever, in my opinion, and he got no
reward for it just like somes races in 2005 (*cries*) I really hope 2009 will allow Kimi to fly higher than
before, because quite frankly his rivals like Massa and Hamilton
haven’t seen nothing yet! The only worthy rival of Kimi’s has been
Fernando Alonso. I noticed while going through my photo collections that Kimi and Alonso both were there when each took their first wins and first world championships. Fernando was 3rd on the podium with Kimi when he won at Malaysia in 2003, and Kimi was 2nd when Alonso took his first win at Hungary in 2003. Kimi was 2nd when Alonso took his world title at Brazil 2005 and Alonso was 3rd when Kimi took his title at Brazil 2007. Sweet! I’m rambling on now, but I hope that Alonso’s Renault doesn’t perform as badly as it looks because I actually miss the good old days between Kimi and Alonso. Roll on 2009!

i thought of Spa too of course!!! what a hell!!but yeah, he is still humble, always the same, just living how he wants without asking to much to life!! he takes the good parts, always!! and leaves behind the difficulties…that’s so great to read some words from him, plus he seems so relax and happy!!but if he doesn’t ask to much, i ask for him, lol!! : please, give him a reliable car and lots of win this year, to see the number one coming back on his car!!KEEP FLYING KIMI!!!

Woohoo!!! Thank you for these Evenstar! Such wonderful interviews! He seems so relaxed! And yes, why delve into the past when you got a bright future ahead of you? That´s one thing I´d like to learn from Kimi, to focus only on the present and future, the past is the past. And I agree with you so strongly about Alonso! Kimi and him had some very good fights…..the thing is, I seriously doubt this year´s Renault is any good, hopefully I´ll be proven wrong!Keep flying Kimi – Keep flying Evenstar!!!

Isn’t it great to read an interview with (mostly) intelligent questions? See when they ask the right questions they get good answers. So simple. Ha ha, I thought of Spa too with his answer to that question, although there were a couple of others where he shone last year too but didn’t go on to win. I am sure he will shine even brighter this year. Not too long to go now…

Wow. Thats the first time I have ever heard Kimi say something remotely political 😀 (Re: Obama) He must be really opening up 😉 I hope and believe its because he is in a really good place :)Sometimes I do wish he would elaborate and tell more about himself. Like the James Hunt story for instance. I would have loved to know the details around that. Oh well. That is just the way he is and I also love him for it.

Hee hee, Kimi only said he thinks Obama is a smart guy. I don’t think we’ll ever get any more than that, you’re right Soren! lol! when Kimi’s comfortable, he is of course more open; he probably says the wildest things when he’s with his mates, just like any of us I guess! Kimi said at the USGP 2007 during the Speed tv show that he enjoys his time "just like any of the other people" lol 🙂 but because the only way we get to know him is via the media, it’s never really the full story and I understand what you mean. But I’m glad he makes this fact obvious and isn’t totally open. He’s a smart man himself….lol@Blackcat: hey, yeah there was France, Canada, Australia even (he started 16th and was already up into 3rd chasing the mclarens down before he overcooked it, unusually). Oh well. We know what he’s capable of lol I hope he knows at least we reward him after bad races with our loyal support.I just can’t wait for the season to start…ARRRRGGGHH!!!!!!!! I admit it’s mainly in anticipation to see whether 2009 really will be a better year for him. But I won’t judge it from the first race, obviously :p

By the way, in the forum we were recently discussing Kimi’s new helmet and of course the discussion about Kimi’s design came up: http://krs.20.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=4&start=0I spent the past month trying to find out the meaning or what is the actual symbol on Kimi’s helmet (sad I know but I’m a Kimi fan lol duh!) and although I didn’t find anything directly related (LOL I even explored magical/mythical Finnish symbols, Gods/Goddesses, birds, army helmets and the national ‘coat of arms’ and the sisu) I had meanwhile asked a dear Finnish friend (Niko) and he told me that from what he can remember, the symbol is a type of rose or tribal flame! and that’s it apparently! It’s completely unique to Kimi, who Uffe Designs obviously helped design it. I’m pleasantly surprised! It is indeed a personal logo and not taken from something else, which we originally may have thought. :)And even though I showed in the forum that I came across another Finnish driver who has this similar symbol on top of his helmet too and his brother Rami has used the same symbol before, this is just because after Kimi became famous in F1, lots of Finnish drivers have copied it. So, the Kimi ‘logo’ is a tribal flame/rose. You read it here first 😉 unless you were in the forum lolI told Niko thanks so much for his take on it, which I trust 110%. But I think I’ll probably still continue exploring it, as I’m sad this fascination of mine has ended LOL

but that’s great after all! We knew Kimi is unique and it confirms that, doesn’t it?thanks a lot to have searched coz i’m happy to know what it means, and delighted to know that comes from him, or at least made for him!! Kimi is special and he deserved a special and personal design for his helmet!! :-)in any case, i love his new helmet with the same logo and the blak tribal!!he deserves an happy life and the best, so i wish him to win lots of races in 2009 and see his tittle back!!

I only know that Kimi has two dogs,Ajax and Pepe, what’s the other one? Does anybody know that? haha…It’s so great to hear that Kimi says:But this does not necessarily mean that I will stop in 2010… "Now, I really can’t image that one day Kimi leaves F1,leaves us.I just hope Kimi gives us one or two more years after 2010.Maybe Kimi would be a good father, because he always says that he wants to look his children grow up,so sweet.I hope Kimi and Jenni would have a wonderful family and a lot of children like Jenni or Kimi~~Anyway, the interview is so interesting,I love it. Thanks,Saima.

Julie, yeah you’re right: there’s Ajax (German Shepherd), Pepe (jack russell), and since Pepe had some puppies last year I think they kept one which makes a family of 3!
