I’ve scanned in some results of F1Racing’s December issue on MOTY which was a global poll. Below are the ones that Kimi has won and those he came very close to winning. The 2007 World Champion won:
- Start of the Year – at the Hungarian Grand Prix from P3 to challenging pole sitter Hamilton.
- Drive of the Year – at British Grand Prix for his electrifying drive to victory.
As the results are shown in full, you can see by what percentage and how close the nominees were voted – Kimi just barely missed out on the Personality, Driver and Man of the Year awards which were obviously handed to Lewis Hamilton. Kimi also came runner up to other awards such as Most Improved Driver and Qualifier of the Year.
Nonetheless, it’s great to see that Kimi had so much support this year throughout the world, through thick and thin. Well done guys and girls! Kimi was also Autosport’s number 1 selection in their Top 50 Drivers of the Year, which you can read in their ‘Best of 2007’ issue.
FIA 2007 Season Review DVD Snippets
Here are three videos of Kimi Raikkonen featured in the 2007 FIA Season Review dvd – an onboard his heart crushing Monaco mistake in the second qualifying session, an onboard of his second 2007 pole position at Nurburgring with his commentary, followed by an onboard of his pitlane entry miss during the chaotic wet European Grand Prix. These are a good selection of videos to keep, from such a tough season.
Thanks to Stefmeister for the video captures. Enjoy!

Aldo Costa: 2008 Car Completely New
Ferrari’s 2008 car will be ‘completely new’ from their
championship-winning F2007, technical director Aldo Costa has revealed,
even though the team are not planning any radical steps.
The Maranello-based team are due to unveil their new car in January,
and have set their sights on making as strong a start to 2008 as they
did last year – when Kimi Raikkonen dominated the Australian Grand Prix.
Speaking about the new car, Costa told Gazzetta dello Sport: "It will be completely new, even though you can’t make radical changes because of the regulations.
"The front of the car will be different, as far as the monocoque is
concerned, with differently shaped sidepods, and the wing will be new
too.
"Electronics change completely, with the single ECU that forced us
to work on engine and gearbox. This will have to be used for four races
in 2008.
"The first tests at Barcelona and Jerez were positive, we simulated
four races with no problems. There will be new components in the
suspensions and the gearbox, with even quicker shifts."
Costa admitted that McLaren gained the upper hand in the middle of
the 2007 campaign because their development rate was better , but
thinks that reliability will be key to next year.
"Our intention is to start 2008 strongly," he said. "We will push to
the maximum during the winter break in order to show up at the start of
the season in good conditions.
"What happened in 2007 has to be judged based on what our rivals
were doing: if they improved mid season it means they worked better.
But we carried on with development by making a lot less errors.
"However, besides being more consistent, we will need a more reliable car."
