CANADA GP – RACE RESULTS

kimi-cangp-070615-krs7Kimi Raikkonen was fourth past the chequered flag at the end of the Canadian Grand Prix, finishing 5 seconds ahead of Sebastian Vettel. The Finn was third for much of the race, until he spun at Turn 10 on lap 28, handing the position to Valtteri Bottas.

Sebastian Vettel put in a gritty drive, starting from 18th on the grid. The German worked his way up to fifth at the end and at times he was the quickest man out on track. The race was won by Lewis Hamilton in the Mercedes while Vettel and Raikkonen lie third and fourth in the Drivers’ Championship classification. [via ferrari.com]

QUOTES

From motorsport.comKimi: “Not the result that we wanted. The spin is exactly the same story as last year. No problems in practice, but on both outlaps there is something odd happening, it just gives a massive throttle release and you cannot control it. It’s not ideal, but it is what it is. It’s a very odd thing, because obviously we do practices and similar stuff. So far this year there’s been no issues, so who knows? The tyres were working more or less fine, but on this kind of circuit fuel saving was a big part and that really limited our speed today in the end.”

“It was not the nicest weekend for us, but we still came home with fourth and fifth place, so it was not a disaster. But we are looking for better results and that is what we are aiming for. It is disappointing where we finished, but we have to keep working and improving.” [ms]

From crash.netKimi: “It was obviously something different that has been happening all year, otherwise I wouldn’t have spun, but this is something that we should know now and probably should have been more smart about it in being able to avoid it. Our map – I don’t know how to explain it – but it’s very on the edge, you move the pedal a little bit and you get a massive difference from the torque and there is no way I could have controlled it any more. It’s a stupid thing, but it happens, we have to learn from it and obviously it hurt us in the race, but you know disappointing results in the end. Obviously we wanted more in the end but you know it’s what it is. It was nothing to do with the tyres. It’s obviously to do with the pit stop maps and it’s nothing to do with the tyres or anything else. Unfortunate thing but it happens and we have to learn those things and improve.”

From autosport.comKimi: “We were hoping for better results and better speed against them but I think this circuit is going to show you the difference if you’re lacking on something. I’m sure the upgrade was good and worked as expected but obviously we still have to work hard and improve things overall. I’m sure when we go to more normal circuits, we will be stronger and we’ll know where the differences were. We were hoping for a bit more of a closer fight and better result.”

“I think we have to improve in the all areas. The car is actually pretty nice. We’ve improved on all the areas since last year but we still have work to be done.” [as]

From ferrari.comKimi: “The result of today is not ideal, we expected more than what we got in the end. My start was pretty good but then I did not have enough speed to go through and try to pass the Mercedes at the first corner. The tires were working pretty much ok, but in this kind of circuit fuel saving plays a big part and this obviously limited our speed today. My spin is exactly the same story of last year, I had no problem in any of the sessions during the weekend, but for some reason today in both the outlaps something odd happened with the throttle, and I could not control it . It’s a very unfortunate thing. Then we tried to recover from that but we found ourselves on different tactics than the Williams. Overall we had a pretty good weekend, we definitely improved in certain areas but of course this is not the result that I was expecting this morning. We’ll keep on working and improving things.”

From ferrari.com Maurizio Arrivabene: “If we look at the race pace, it was good, but a lot of circumstances occurred which prevented us from getting a better result. Sebastian drove a great race, making up thirteen places from the grid position. The upgraded engine gave us a positive feedback, but the weekend just wasn’t a good one. As for Kimi, he was scheduled for a one-stop race, then we switched to two tire changes when he fell behind Bottas. His spin at the hairpin is something we haven’t fully understood yet, it may be a case of contributory negligence as he said the same thing happened last year. It would be wrong to blame either him or the team in any case. He was pushing hard, too, but some issues slowed him down at some stages in the race. We must remain humble and try not to let the podium slip off from under our feet as it happened this time. We’re still the second strongest team, but we must look ahead instead of behind us”.

  2. These last two years of f1 racing have been extremely boring. The media, mostly british, are not criticizing the current state of f1 cause there’s a british driver winning races. The excitement and pleasure of watching f1 has gone down the toilet. Its frustrating to see the gap go wider in every race, its even more pathetic to see mercedes acting as if f1 is competitive. I bet you mercedes are on a 80 % true potential in every race and sometimes pretend (at the end of races) that they have a reliability problem.
In regards to kimi, I’m assuming that he is frustrated at the current conditions of f1 and sometimes his concentration fails him so he makes life very hard for himself in races and quali.

  5. Why is it that Kimi keeps playing the same old tune? Whether it’s a setup issue, or some bad luck, or another pathetic qualifying, he simply cannot get it right. Vettel managed it, even with his real problems he had, red flags and all…

C’mon Kimi! You really are just getting more and more boring with all your damn issues! What’s the point if you can’t get it right?

I agree whit you, ok here and there you can have problems but kimi does have problems
      all the time.
realy boring to hear always the same words from him like trafic or tyres issues….or power unit… boring.
its the same for all drivers i mean you hot or you not. Last year Alonso destroyed him, evryone sayd that the car was more to Alonso style,ok i would belive, but this year the car is more to his drivestyle but he keeps bean destroyed by his team mate.
Realy sorry to say that but i thik that kimi is to old for the new era and all that new s… better stop and do somthing else

      1. To drive in F1, you have to be methodical and meticulous. Sadly, I don’t think Kimi fits the bill any longer.

      3. Totally disagree – you’re beginning to sound like the Sky F1 commentary team.. Last year, Ferrari would have given their right arms for a fourth place – just goes to show how much things have improved, when everyone is complaining that it’s not enough. Kimi is totally honest and doesn’t make excuses – he tells it like it is. I thought this was supposed to be a fan site anyway?

  6. It just doesn’t seem as if he is trying hard enough any longer. I get the impression that he is okay with 4th place or even lower. Remember, there are several other drivers who have the edge over Kimi now, so he does need to fight even harder. If he is okay with playing second fiddle at Ferrari, then we should accept it. But we cannot deny the fact that yet another teammate in 2 years is seemingly better than him…
And yes, I am still a fan because I do know he has the potential to win, and not make stupid mistakes.

    1. How can you say that? Lol He came 2nd in Bahrain and he clearly wasn’t even happy with that, why? COS HE WANTS TO F**KING WIN!

      1. …then he needs to prove it! But at the same time, no one is going to stand on the top step of the podium except a Merc driver this year, unless reliability issues creep in somewhere… At the moment, Kimi is still not as good as Vettel.
