Friday in Silverstone: “Pretty okay day”

| Source: lotusf1team.com |

Having not taken to the track in the morning, it was an afternoon of upgrade assessment – both car and hairstyle – for our Finn on the opening day here at Silverstone…

Q: Tell us about your day…
KR: We didn’t want to go out this morning as it was raining and we wouldn’t have learnt anything from it, so we used the second session to get the Device working and for this we used the developmental and hard tyres. It was a pretty okay day.

Q: Are you worried about only setting the 13th fastest time?
KR: If we’d have wanted to go faster we’d have put on the softer tyres and we’d have been pretty okay. We should be fine tomorrow with the softer tyres and everything we’ve learnt from today.

Q: How’s the Device working?
KR: It’s not exactly where we want it to be, but it’s not far off. We’re checking all the data to decide if we’ll use it for the rest of the weekend. We won’t use it unless we think it makes an improvement, but it’s not going to make a 10kph difference. It’s a little penalty in some places, but a benefit in others.

Q: Will your new hair style make you faster?
KR: My hair cut won’t make me faster.

Q: When can we see the new cut?
KR: If I get on the podium I’ll let you see it. I’ll try to do it.

Boullier: Lotus atmosphere special to Kimi

“Red Bull is chasing Kimi and we want to keep Kimi,” explained Boullier. “Kimi will decide what he wants to do, and he will decide what is best for him.

“He knows what he has with us; he can guess what he has with Red Bull. Now we are talking with him and he is seeking some understanding of where we are going, in terms of building with the new ownership. He is happy with what he has, so we will see. The environment must suit him. We will keep improving the team performance and we will keep going this way to match Red Bull’s team performance as much as possible. Being part of the environment to build it around yourself is the nicest challenge for a driver.”

Red Bull boss Christian Horner believes, however, that Raikkonen’s decision will come down simply to which team offers him the best chance of victory.

“At the end of the day it will be equipment at their disposal,” he explained. “Any drivers will want the most competitive environment at their disposal, but we are not just looking at Kimi Raikkonen. We have Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne, who are true contenders for the seat. We need to take a bit of time to look at all the options that are available.”

  1. Not a really promising first day. The track temperature didn’t help, what i’m sure that the Red Bull looks very strong n the Mercedes will probably take pole, Kimi somehow dn’t seem that anxious, guess there’s more to come from the car today n the weather forecast dn’t look that bad for today n tomorrow. We should see a much quicker Kimi today. What a shame Pirelli brings the harder compounds, it would have been much better for Kimi had the soft n medium tyres available for this wkend, the constant complaints from r.bull have paid off. Horner would be stupid to compare Kimi to Vergne n Ricciardo, he must do whatever he can to get Kimi. P.S: fantastic circuit, a joy to watch the onboard footage, Copse is one of my favourite corner of the calendar.

  2. Yeah – this triangle – Kimi, Lotus, RB – causes very mix-up feelings……..It doesn´t easy to make the best/right decision. To have a winning car, that´s the biggest wish. To have a normal climate and normal people around – that´s the wish and very important.
I believe in Kimi´s words: it was pretty OK day. He knows what he´s talking! I hope, today will be much better and tomorrow – victory would be a crown as for Kimi as for Lotus-team works as well! We can only keep our fingers crossed and hope the very best:))
